Examine what the green indicator actually confirms

An inspection result is useful only when the image, timing and approved reference describe the pack that actually passed through the machine.

01

The visible feature comes before the recognition claim

A recognition result depends on the image supplied to the software. I ask whether the lighting and presentation reveal the feature the inspection is intended to examine across the defined material range. In our glare case, eleven deliberately defective samples received an incorrect accept result because the missing characters were not represented adequately in the captured image. Raising a software score threshold alone would not establish that the feature had become visible. We changed the optical setup and enclosure and repeated a defined challenge with quality oversight. That result still applied to the reviewed conditions, not to every future carton finish or position. I want the commercial description to carry those limits. Customer validation and pharmaceutical release remain separate responsibilities; our engineering evidence supports a specific equipment claim rather than a general assertion about the medicine inside the pack.

02

A throughput promise needs the whole timing sequence

A camera's nominal frame rate does not establish the rate at which an integrated system can acquire, process, associate and act on an inspection result. I examine the relevant sequence, including whether stages can overlap in the actual design. Our reviewed non-overlapping cycle required 125 milliseconds, while a 600-carton-per-minute promise allowed only 100. That mismatch existed before any allowance for variation. We withdrew the claim and demonstrated a 400-per-minute configuration under stated conditions after correcting the control behaviour. I also require an explicit response when an expected image or result is missing; silence cannot be treated as acceptance. The appropriate equipment response and customer integration need their own agreed review. My role is to make timing and association constraints visible before they become an unsupported production commitment.

03

The reference is part of the inspection configuration

A machine can compare a carton accurately with an obsolete artwork image. The result may be mathematically consistent while answering a question the customer no longer intends to ask. I treat reference identity and revision as part of the controlled inspection configuration, with approval ownership clearly assigned. In our changeover exercises, three of sixteen selections used obsolete references. We changed how the product bound an approved revision to a job and how it displayed that choice for verification. The customer's authorised artwork owner still had to supply and approve the correct reference. Our equipment could preserve that decision and prevent certain substitutions; it could not determine the regulatory or commercial correctness of artwork by itself. This distinction matters when discussing automation, because reducing operator steps must not quietly transfer an approval into an algorithm that was never designed to make it.

04

Founder ownership makes the qualification commercially personal

As a 30% shareholder and executive director, I feel the effect of a delayed delivery or a narrower performance claim. That makes it especially important to separate my commercial preference from the engineering conclusion. I bring the test scope, alternative, cost and remaining uncertainty into the board discussion rather than ask colleagues to trust a founder's confidence. The glare correction cost ₹1.2 crore and delayed delivery; the speed correction reduced the supported offer under the reviewed conditions. Those were business consequences, not merely technical refinements. I also need quality colleagues to challenge my recommendations without treating my ownership as the final technical argument. An outside board would require a different contribution: collective oversight and questions about the evidence, with management responsible for implementation. My founder experience is relevant, but it does not remove the need to learn that distinction in another company.

A leadership conviction

I ask what the camera could see, which object the result belongs to and what reference the comparison used. A convincing green indicator can still answer the wrong question. My responsibility is to make the inspection claim specific enough that customers and our board can understand its limits, including the commercial cost of narrowing it.
