Make the inspection claim fit the evidence

An inspection result is useful only when the image, timing and approved reference describe the pack that actually passed through the machine.

A considered point of view.

I ask what the camera could see, which object the result belongs to and what reference the comparison used. A convincing green indicator can still answer the wrong question. My responsibility is to make the inspection claim specific enough that customers and our board can understand its limits, including the commercial cost of narrowing it.

Selected leadership work / 01

Rebuilding the image before adjusting the software judgement

In 2021 we challenged a preproduction carton-inspection system with forty-eight samples containing deliberately introduced missing characters.

The engineering claim must remain attached to the conditions that produced the result.

I co-founded Dalqeni Package Vision Systems in Lucknow and now lead its technology function. Our equipment inspects exterior print and artwork on pharmaceutical cartons. We employed 145 people in March 2026 and recorded ₹49 crore revenue in FY 2025–26. I lead 28 engineers through four leads, with ₹7.2 crore annual engineering expense and a separate ₹2.1 crore approved capital allocation. I own 30% of the company and have been an executive director since 2009. Meera Qelthani is CEO and holds 40%; employee shareholders hold the remaining 30%. Qualified customer teams retain artwork approval, validation and pharmaceutical batch-release responsibility.

I began in optical-instrument applications after an electronics and instrumentation degree in 1999. Early installation work taught me that the same component could produce a very different image under different lighting or material conditions. Co-founding the company made those technical limits part of a commercial promise for which I was also accountable. I could no longer treat an ambitious sales statement as someone else's interpretation of engineering. My work now joins optics, controls, software and quality review with a precise account of what a delivered system has actually demonstrated.

The cases here concern glare that concealed missing print, a speed commitment that exceeded the tested inspection cycle and an obsolete artwork reference selected during changeover. They include designs and claims I had supported. We funded correction, delayed commitments and retained customer approval boundaries instead of presenting a successful demonstration as universal capability. None of these equipment tests establishes medicine quality or patient outcomes. A prospective collaborator should be able to see the tested conditions, the person who opposed the correction and the limitation that remained after we completed the engineering work.

Eleven known print defects disappeared into a reflection

In a 48-sample preproduction challenge, eleven cartons with deliberately missing characters received an incorrect accept result under the original lighting. We held delivery and funded ₹1.2 crore of optical and enclosure work over ten weeks.

A 600-carton promise exceeded the complete inspection cycle

The proposed rate allowed 100 milliseconds per carton, but the reviewed non-overlapping cycle required 125 milliseconds. We withdrew the 600-per-minute claim and demonstrated a 400-per-minute configuration under stated test conditions after a ₹42 lakh correction.

The comparison was accurate against the wrong revision

Three of sixteen controlled changeover exercises selected an obsolete artwork reference. We spent ₹36 lakh over seven weeks on revision binding and approval controls, keeping customer artwork authorisation separate from machine matching.

Current focus

I am bringing the optical setup, processing cycle and reference revision into one technical release account, so a product promise cannot rely on a favourable result from only one part of the system.

Conversations I welcome

I am interested in technology partnerships and a first outside non-executive role in specialist equipment, subject to a careful review of my founder ownership, director duties and customer relationships.

Rehana brought the narrower engineering answer into the commercial discussion, including the cost to our own forecast. Her founder stake made that a difficult choice, not a reason to avoid it.
