Enterprise Finance Data Product Director mandate in Boston, United States
Confidential Enterprise Finance Data Product Director in Boston, United States, reporting to the Group Controller. Permanent Finance & Accounting appointment at Director level, an ongoing appointment; full time.
The mandate
The Enterprise Finance Data Product Director will establish permanent product ownership for the information finance relies on to close, control, report and decide. The role sits inside finance and owns value, definitions, priorities and adoption for a portfolio of finance data products. It is not a delivery-manager position and does not transfer technical architecture or accounting accountability into one office.
Within 90 days, the director will identify priority finance decisions and controls whose data is unreliable, slow or costly to reconcile, then define a bounded product portfolio. By month six, each priority product should have users, owner, service expectation, definition, quality measures and a funded roadmap. By month twelve, initial products must show adoption and reduced reconciliation, delay or decision uncertainty.
The director can set finance product priorities, accept or reject finance requirements, require definition ownership and recommend funding sequence. Technology leaders own engineering and architecture; controllers own accounting conclusions; data stewards own approved quality decisions. The product director aligns these accountabilities around observable user and finance outcomes.
Product value must be measured in changed work or decisions. A data set published but not trusted, understood or used is not complete. The director will observe user workflows, track parallel spreadsheets and manual reconciliations, and decide whether demand reflects a legitimate finance need, unresolved definition or preference for local duplication.
Over time, the role will build a finance product-management discipline with capable product leads, transparent roadmaps and retirement of redundant outputs. Success is a smaller, better-owned information estate that changes safely and makes limitations visible, not an ever-growing catalogue of available data.
What you will own
- Define a finance data-product portfolio anchored in material decisions, reporting outputs, controls and recurring reconciliation burden.
- Assign finance owners, users, definitions, service expectations, quality measures and adoption outcomes to each priority product.
- Exercise authority over finance requirement priority and recommend investment sequence based on value, risk and dependency.
- Establish discovery that observes user work and tests whether requests reflect genuine need, definition conflict or local preference.
- Introduce release and change acceptance covering financial semantics, lineage, quality, user readiness and control consequence.
- Measure adoption through changed workflows, reduced parallel reconciliation and improved decision timeliness.
- Retire redundant outputs and local substitutes only after user, control and continuity conditions are satisfied.
- Build product-lead capability and issue a first-year portfolio value, risk and retirement account.
Candidate qualifications
- Show senior product ownership for finance information with measured user, control or reporting outcomes.
- Provide an example of rejecting or reshaping a finance data request after observing the underlying decision workflow.
- Demonstrate ability to govern definitions and priorities while respecting technical architecture and accounting decision boundaries.
- Evidence adoption beyond access or publication, including removal of manual reconciliation or parallel reporting.
- Describe retirement of a redundant output without interrupting a control, close or legitimate user decision.
- Bring enough finance-process depth to challenge semantic ambiguity and enough product discipline to sequence value.
- Show development of internal product leaders and a transparent portfolio that did not depend on one sponsor.
Working terms and boundaries
- This is a full-time permanent appointment owning finance data-product value, priorities, roadmaps and product talent.
- Engineering architecture, access administration, accounting conclusions and formal data-quality decisions remain with designated owners.
- The director may reject finance requirements or recommend sequencing but cannot bypass investment or production governance.
- First-year assessment covers adoption, reconciliation reduction, decision improvement, controlled retirement and portfolio capability.
- Long-term incentive treatment follows approved performance and vesting rules.
