Senior Vice President Operational Excellence mandate in Mumbai, India · Credit Rating Services

Lead operational excellence for a credit-rating services platform, reducing avoidable intake and review variation through an eighteen-month opening agenda that improves case reliability while preserving analytical independence, specialist judgement and enduring ownership of the process-improvement portfolio.

The mandate

Cases in a credit-rating services platform spend very different amounts of time between information intake and readiness for professional review. Management attributes the variation to case complexity, yet repeated clarification loops, inconsistent handoffs and incomplete initial records also contribute. The new SVP will lead operational excellence across that supporting workflow. Employment is open-ended, starting with an eighteen-month agenda to establish a valid process baseline and improve reliability. The role governs operational improvement, not rating methodology, analytical conclusions or the independence of the professionals making them.

The work requires careful separation of necessary judgement from avoidable delay. Waiting for material information is not equivalent to a queue left unattended, and a reopened case can indicate either proper professional challenge or a failed intake check. You will classify those causes before setting targets. Teams need common definitions of ready, returned and paused that reflect approved operating requirements. Improvement cases must explain which variation can responsibly be reduced and which remains inherent in the analytical work; a faster average is not success if it rewards premature submission or suppresses valid questions.

Forty improvement colleagues report through process and portfolio leads, working with approximately 400 operational and analytical-support colleagues. You own improvement prioritisation, measurement standards and adoption support within approved budgets. Case managers retain live workload responsibility; analytical leaders determine professional readiness and conclusions; compliance approves relevant operating conditions. The improvement council decides material process or investment changes. You may challenge an unreliable performance measure and require a revised improvement case, but cannot direct analysts to shorten necessary review or accept incomplete evidence to meet a service-speed target.

After the opening programme, managers should be able to explain case-time variation by its true cause and maintain improved handoffs without an improvement specialist observing every queue. Subsequent cycles will extend the portfolio using verified outcomes and lessons from failed interventions. Mumbai requires close contact with operations, supported by scheduled observation visits. Developing process leads and a practical coaching system is part of the enduring appointment. The platform wants a disciplined improvement institution that protects analytical quality while reducing preventable friction, rather than an executive who reports impressive cycle-time reductions achieved by changing the measurement boundary.

What you will own

  • Establish a case-flow baseline using event evidence and validated operational definitions, distinguishing complexity, missing information and queue delay before selecting the variation that an improvement programme can responsibly address.
  • Decide improvement priorities through consequence, recurrence and feasible intervention, rejecting projects whose proposed speed gain depends on moving the start point or excluding difficult cases from the reported population.
  • Build intake and handoff standards with case and analytical owners, specifying the evidence needed for readiness while retaining a visible route for legitimate professional questions that arise after initial acceptance.
  • Set measurement-system checks for returned, paused and reopened cases, testing whether different teams classify the same event consistently before comparing their performance or committing them to common targets.
  • Lead controlled process trials with managers, assessing downstream rework and quality as well as elapsed time so local efficiency cannot be claimed by transferring avoidable work to analytical reviewers.
  • Recommend wider adoption with evidence of sustained operating results, identifying the training, ownership and workload conditions required rather than assuming one successful trial automatically fits every location.
  • Develop process leads through failed-intervention reviews and practical coaching, enabling them to distinguish necessary analytical judgement from preventable friction and maintain improvements after specialist support is withdrawn.

Candidate qualifications

  • Provide an operational improvement where apparent case-time variation had more than one cause. Explain how you validated event definitions, separated necessary review from avoidable work and tested the intervention's downstream consequences. The evidence should show a personally led decision and sustained managerial use, not an attractive process map or a cycle-time percentage whose population and boundaries cannot be defended.
  • Bring 18–22 years in financial-services or banking process change, with VP-level or substantial operational-excellence leadership. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt capability or equivalent advanced applied methods is expected. Show measurement-system judgement, root-cause testing and control planning in practice; a qualification without examples of rejected hypotheses or an intervention changed after evidence will not establish the depth required for this seat.
  • Demonstrate informed respect for credit-rating or comparable professional-analysis independence. You must recognise why operational readiness can be standardised while analytical conclusions remain with specialists. Explain an improvement target you adjusted because it risked discouraging legitimate review, moving work downstream or rewarding incomplete intake. The requirement is credible process leadership rather than a particular rating-methodology credential or authority to judge the substantive result.
  • Evidence leadership of improvement managers across locations, including operational adoption after a pilot ended. Describe how you obtained reliable case data, coached owners and preserved the control plan under changing workloads. Practical programme and agile-delivery experience should support the improvement portfolio, alongside clear executive communication and the discipline to report an unsuccessful intervention honestly rather than redefine its metric retrospectively.
