Regional Vice President, Finance — Medical Device Lifecycle
Planned Hiring / New
Regional Vice President, Finance mandate in Mumbai, India · Medical Devices
Lead regional medical-device finance across equipment, consumables and service economics, aligning distributor profitability, installed-base investment and financial governance through an ongoing executive role with an initial twenty-four-month lifecycle profitability agenda.
The mandate
A regional medical-device business earns revenue from equipment placements, recurring consumables and technical service, but currently evaluates each stream through separate planning routines. Equipment discounts can create an installed base that never reaches expected utilisation, while distributor incentives obscure the cash needed to support it. The vice president will own regional finance judgement across that lifecycle and make growth decisions economically coherent.
Employment is open-ended, with an initial twenty-four-month agenda to establish installed-base profitability, reliable channel forecasts and a stronger regional control environment. Thirty-five finance professionals will report through country and functional managers. Mumbai is the leadership base, with quarterly regional travel and selected field reviews alongside commercial and service teams to test whether the financial model reflects the way devices are actually deployed.
The leader may set regional planning standards, require financial conditions for equipment placements and approve commercial exceptions within authorised limits. Clinical decisions, product safety and regulatory submissions remain with qualified specialists. Material distributor exits, capital commitments and changes to regional legal structure require global or board approval. Finance must distinguish an economically justified access investment from a concession whose supposed future consumption has no verifiable support.
The lasting output is a regional decision system that reconciles accounting results to customer and installed-base economics without creating a parallel ungoverned ledger. It should reveal where service coverage, warranty obligations and channel inventory change the meaning of reported growth. The role does not assume procurement ownership or clinical expertise; it does demand enough sector understanding to challenge a commercial proposal respectfully and identify when a specialist's evidence is necessary.
What you will own
- Establish an installed-base profitability view that links placement price, consumable demand, service burden and warranty exposure, reconciling its conclusions with recognised revenue and documented customer activity.
- Decide the financial conditions for distributor and direct-placement proposals, requiring evidence of utilisation assumptions and escalation where projected lifetime value depends on unsupported consumption or renewal expectations.
- Shape regional investment priorities with commercial and service leaders, comparing new placements against support of the existing base and identifying the cash consequences of each growth alternative.
- Govern country planning and risk reviews so channel inventory, overdue balances and contractual service obligations remain visible alongside headline sales and operating-margin performance.
- Present regional executive papers on complex customer or distributor decisions, making the clinical, regulatory and operational dependencies explicit without claiming finance authority over the specialists who own them.
- Develop country finance leaders capable of challenging business plans, resolving accounting-to-commercial differences and escalating material exposures promptly while retaining a consistent regional approval and evidence discipline.
Candidate qualifications
- Bring a 22–28-year finance career with senior business partnering or finance-director accountability in medical technology, healthcare products or an evidenced adjacent consumer or industrial product setting. You must show how equipment or durable-product economics interacted with recurring revenue, service or channel obligations, including a decision where the full lifecycle view altered the apparent attractiveness of initial sales.
- Demonstrate depth across management accounting, financial reporting and internal controls rather than expertise in only one planning discipline. Evidence should include a reconciled profitability view, a material commercial risk judgement and governance of a finance team through competing country priorities. A recognised accounting qualification is useful, but equivalent senior finance competence will be assessed directly.
- Have influenced regional commercial leaders while respecting specialist boundaries in regulated products. Describe how you challenged incentive design, distributor stocking or customer investment without compromising product safety or inventing clinical authority. The role requires the confidence to state what finance evidence can establish and what remains dependent on qualified technical or regulatory advice.
- Show leadership of managers across multiple operating units, with clear delegation and practical development of business-finance capability. The selection discussion will examine how you handled uncertain projections, difficult channel exposure and disagreement with a revenue owner. Regional travel and substantive engagement with service operations are necessary, because the seat cannot be performed solely through consolidated reporting packs.
