The boardroom

Ask what management's evidence is entitled to say

I would want a board to understand what an information system establishes and what it merely makes convenient to assume. A current rule can sit beside a historical calculation without explaining its original basis. A support screen can display one client while an export operates more broadly. A downloaded statement can be available while a person remains unable to use it independently. These are not arguments against technology. They are reasons to make the evidence and its limits clear enough that directors can examine the actual business decision.

My current responsibilities are executive. I lead 47 technology colleagues through four heads, with operating expense and capital approved separately, and report to the CEO. Qezvuni supplies retirement-benefit administration and records services. Clients retain fiduciary, investment and benefit-authorisation responsibilities, supported by qualified advisers where required. The company's member-record count is not assets under management. I would carry those boundaries into a board discussion because a familiar financial-services label can otherwise invite assumptions about authority and scale that the business does not hold.

The historical-rule review illustrates the kind of account I would expect management to provide. Eighty-four records lacked sufficient links to the relevant rule version. Evidence was reconstructed for sixty-seven, while seventeen required further client clarification. The work cost ₹48 lakh. The report should not convert those numbers into corrected benefits or imply that every unresolved record is financially wrong. Directors need to understand what the programme has established, the authority required for the next decision and the resources attached to the remaining work. A compact completion percentage cannot carry all of that meaning responsibly.

I also want the operating consequence of a cautious decision to be funded. Delaying the support workspace kept an older process in use for five more weeks. The ₹36 lakh response included temporary service support as well as correction and testing. Retaining an assisted statement route created continuing work beyond the digital release. A board can ask whether management has accepted those consequences explicitly or transferred them to another team while reporting a clean technology milestone. The decision should be assessed with its real cost, not made to appear free because its purpose is defensible.

My own judgement needs scrutiny too. I had accepted download availability as stronger evidence of access than it was. The user rehearsal changed my view and the release criterion. In a board role, I would want to recognise when experience helps me ask a useful question and when it encourages a familiar but incomplete explanation. Collective oversight requires people with complementary financial, legal, actuarial, operating and sector expertise. I do not claim that systems knowledge supplies the right answer to every problem involving a record.

Before accepting an appointment, I would examine relationships through Qezvuni's owners, clients, advisers and suppliers, together with relevant personal connections. A lack of personal equity or current directorship does not settle independence. Qualified advice is needed on the actual company and applicable requirements. I would keep member records, scheme material and commercial evidence from my executive role confidential. Experience can inform the questions I ask without becoming permission to transfer documents to a new organisation. Employer consent and the practical demands of the role belong in the same assessment.

My current board exposure is limited to presenting management evidence; it has not included a director appointment. Databank registration and proficiency preparation remain unfinished in this fictional career, and I claim neither an assessment pass nor an exemption. Twenty-five days is a provisional allowance to examine against induction, papers, travel, meetings and exceptional events. I would seek a first role with a clear need for information-service judgement and a chair who expects me to learn the wider responsibilities of the board. The contribution should help the group reach a better-supported decision, including when that requires changing an explanation I originally found convincing.

On governance

I want the system to preserve the explanation a person may need years after the original transaction. Retirement administration brings together employment history, scheme rules, authorised decisions and records that continue to matter after active service ends. A current screen can look orderly while losing the version or relationship needed to explain an older calculation. My job is to make that continuity workable without pretending that software owns the client's judgement.

I am considering a first outside board contribution where long-lived records and continuing customer obligations matter. I have no statutory appointment and have not yet registered in the IICA databank. Preparation remains unfinished. Twenty-five days is a provisional capacity allowance, subject to employer consent, relationships and the demands of a specific role.
