From preparing records to leading evidence products

Chief Data Officer

Pevqazri Materials Evidence

Sector
Regional building-materials testing and evidence services
Ownership
Founder 44%; employee vehicle 36%; private investor 20%; personal 0.03% within employee allocation
Company scale
₹61 crore FY ending March 2026: ₹43 crore laboratory and ₹18 crore data/evidence services
Employees
156 at March 2026; external advisers separate
Geography
Davanagere-based practice serving fictional regional projects
Reporting to
CEO Devika Qazvelri
Team
Eighteen colleagues through three data leads
Financial scope
₹3.7 crore FY2026–27 function expense; separate ₹1.9 crore instrument and data programme

Mandate

Preserve measurement meaning, analytical conditions and permitted use across the practice's data products.

Outcomes

  • Kept below-limit qualifiers in an export instead of converting them to measured zeros.
  • Rebuilt a predictive assessment around complete material batches.
  • Separated portal presentation from authorised technical conclusions.
  • Narrowed a reusable evidence product to its cleared purpose and collection limits.

Decisions in context

I report to Devika and lead eighteen colleagues through three leads. The practice's ₹61 crore revenue and 156 employees describe enterprise scale; my delegated function expense and separate programme have different purposes. Imran retains qualified laboratory and reporting decisions. The current cases examine transformations that could change what a client or executive believes has been established: qualifiers, model partitions, rounded categories and reuse conditions. I want the data team to make those choices accountable without absorbing professional authority it does not hold. My 0.03% personal interest is part of the employee allocation, and I hold no statutory seat. The proposed board contribution would need a company-specific review of relationships, capacity and readiness. This role demonstrates data stewardship within a regional practice, not accreditation, construction approval or independent verification of any real material performance. A search partner should preserve those boundaries alongside the scale of the responsibility.

Reason for the move

Current appointment; exploring an initial board contribution while completing preparation.

Director of Analytical Data

Pevqazri Materials Evidence

Sector
Laboratory data and analytical evidence services
Ownership
Privately held regional practice
Company scale
₹39 crore FY ending March 2017
Employees
118 in FY2017
Geography
Regional materials-testing assignments

Then Chief Executive Officer
Team
Eleven data colleagues
Financial scope
₹1.8 crore annual function expense

Mandate

Develop analytical information products while retaining the laboratory's ownership of technical interpretations.

Outcomes

  • Approved the highest-result summary later withdrawn.
  • Reviewed ninety series and exposed eight unresolved repeat explanations.
  • Accepted ₹28 lakh correction work and retained the complete test history.

Decisions in context

The director role placed eleven colleagues and ₹1.8 crore annual expense within my remit. Pevqazri employed 118 people and recorded ₹39 crore FY2017 revenue. I became responsible for how analytical records were presented beyond the laboratory. The highest-result rule belongs in this period because I supported its convenience before examining the authority behind the choice. Imran's challenge led to the ninety-series review and the correction programme. I had to explain the withdrawn rule to colleagues who had relied on my approval, rather than present the repair as a problem someone else had created. The experience made me more careful about the difference between representing an authorised conclusion and creating one through software. The later CDO appointment enlarged that responsibility; it did not erase the original mistake or establish that every interpretation problem had been solved permanently by the revised product.

Reason for the move

Promoted to CDO as responsibility expanded across data products and their commercial uses.

Laboratory Information Manager

Pevqazri Materials Evidence

Sector
Building-materials laboratory information services
Ownership
Private regional enterprise
Company scale
₹25 crore FY ending March 2011
Employees
Eighty-nine in FY2011
Geography
Davanagere-led regional laboratory work
Reporting to
Laboratory operations director
Team
Six colleagues
Financial scope
₹88 lakh annual function expense

Mandate

Maintain the connection between specimens, observations, qualifications and reporting records.

Outcomes

  • Connected information pathways to laboratory decision owners.
  • Retained the context accompanying repeated observations.
  • Built management experience at the interface of records and technical reporting.

Decisions in context

The move to Pevqazri put me closer to the physical origin of the records I managed. I led six colleagues under the laboratory operations director, with ₹88 lakh annual expense. The eighty-nine-person practice recorded ₹25 crore FY2011 revenue. A specimen, an observation and a report were connected but distinct parts of the work. I learned that a repeat could have a legitimate explanation without becoming an automatic replacement for the initial record. My team maintained the pathway and its context; qualified owners retained the methods and technical conclusions. This period gave me a practical basis for later data-product responsibilities, including the judgement I would subsequently get wrong in the summary rule. The chronology should not convert an information-management role into authority to certify material suitability, nor should it attach invented financial benefits to process improvements whose commercial effects were not separately measured.

Reason for the move

Promoted as the practice developed broader analytical information products.

Data-quality Lead

Vaqtemri Statistical Services

Sector
Regional statistical preparation and data-quality services
Ownership
Privately owned professional practice
Company scale
₹14 crore FY ending March 2005
Employees
Sixty-eight in FY2005
Geography
Regional analytical assignments
Reporting to
Analytical services director
Team
Four colleagues
Financial scope
₹42 lakh annual function expense

Mandate

Improve the fidelity of analytical records while distinguishing correction from technical interpretation.

Outcomes

  • Led a small data-quality team within a wider analytical practice.
  • Clarified which record changes required specialist judgement.
  • Developed attention to qualifications that could disappear during transfer.

Decisions in context

I led four colleagues and managed ₹42 lakh annual function expense under the analytical services director. Vaqtemri's sixty-eight employees and ₹14 crore FY2005 revenue were company context, not resources I personally controlled. The work involved records arriving from different assignments with different units, qualifications and explanations. I learned to distinguish an identifiable transcription correction from a technical judgement that belonged with the relevant specialist. A data-quality label could otherwise make an unsupported change look routine. More than six years in this role developed my ability to coordinate a small team and explain why some apparently inconvenient fields had to remain. The move to Pevqazri gave that concern a more specific laboratory setting. It was a progression in responsibility, not evidence that I had already led enterprise data strategy or conducted every kind of analysis represented in the practice's client work.

Reason for the move

Joined Pevqazri to work directly with laboratory information and reporting pathways.

Statistical Data Associate

Vaqtemri Statistical Services

Sector
Statistical data preparation
Ownership
Private professional practice
Company scale
₹7 crore FY ending March 1999
Employees
Forty-two in FY1999
Geography
Supervised regional client assignments
Reporting to
Senior analyst
Team
Individual contributor
Financial scope
No delegated budget or direct reports

Mandate

Prepare assigned records accurately and preserve the context needed by the supervising analyst.

Outcomes

  • Developed supervised statistical data-preparation practice.
  • Learned to retain units, qualifications and collection context.
  • Built the foundation for a later team-lead appointment.

Decisions in context

My first appointment began in July 1998, after the full-time statistics degree ended that May. Vaqtemri employed forty-two people and recorded ₹7 crore FY1999 revenue. I worked under a senior analyst without a budget or direct reports. The task was to prepare records faithfully and ask when their meaning was unclear, not to choose the conclusion that a client should receive. I began noticing how a value could appear more certain after its qualification or unit had been separated during preparation. That observation shaped my later interest in data stewardship. The early role was supervised and should remain so in the public account. Nearly six years of practical work preceded the team-lead appointment. The chronology gives the reader a credible starting point rather than retrospectively attach executive authority to a junior job because the subsequent career eventually reached a CDO role.

Reason for the move

Promoted after sustained analytical preparation and coordination experience.

What I am looking for next

I would consider a first board contribution where evidence products influence commercial commitments and professional responsibilities. My experience could help directors examine how a data transformation changes a conclusion, whether model assessment resembles its intended use and what conditions sit behind a proposed data asset. It does not make me immediately ready to chair an audit or risk committee. I registered in the IICA databank in August 2026 in this fictional record; the proficiency assessment remains unfinished and no exemption is claimed. A specific nomination would need the applicable eligibility, independence and relationship assessment, including my current employment and small equity interest. Twenty-one days is an initial annual capacity estimate to examine against induction, reading, travel and exceptional demands. I would seek a chair who values clear evidence boundaries and can help me develop collective oversight without recreating an executive data function inside the boardroom. The contribution must fit the company's actual needs, not merely a preference for a technology-related title.
