The boardroom
Ask what has been committed, what has been delivered and what remains.
I would bring a question about the promise behind an industrial-product decision: what is the institution actually committing to provide, and what remains to be established before it can support that promise? A proposed successor, a common family and a capacity forecast can all look complete in an executive presentation while leaving different obligations unresolved. My contribution would be to help a board ask management to explain that relationship, rather than assume that a concise proposition has already settled the application, engineering and service questions beneath it.
The 2023 range review at the fictional Qivaren Industrial distinguishes a development decision from an achieved product result. Forty-eight of seventy-two variants were candidates for six common families, while twenty-four special-duty variants remained outside that common proposition. CNY 42 million funded six development programmes. A board should be able to understand that stage and ask which conditions would need to be met before a later launch or substitution claim. The decision did not establish universal interchangeability, six completed launches or the disappearance of obligations around equipment already installed.
My own earlier selector error would be relevant to that discussion. At Lanveth Controls I approved direct-replacement wording for a mapping whose evidence was narrower. Of 150 legacy products, 116 had proposed successors and 34 remained unresolved; 18 of the mapped cases required changed connections. I withdrew the unqualified claim after Minzhen Qiu challenged it. The correction retained 98 direct-replacement candidates, 18 adapter-dependent cases and 34 unresolved mappings. It did not certify every application. Oversight should be able to examine that distinction without taking over the specialist assessment of the equipment.
The service-transition case adds a question about who carries the work when a range is retired. Of 480 installations, 360 could follow the planned transition while 120 could not complete it within the proposed twelve months. We funded a bounded twenty-four-month service bridge for that 120-installation group. That was neither a declaration that every installation had migrated nor an unlimited support promise. A board discussion could ask management to explain the scope, responsibilities and remaining exposure of the bridge, while leaving the delivery and technical decisions with their proper owners.
The 2025 forecast review shows how evidence can change status as it travels into a recommendation. The CNY 180 million forecast concerned 1000 units and 36 options, while the supporting 240 configuration requests comprised 156 standard and 84 bespoke enquiries. They were not orders. I withheld the capacity recommendation and funded further definition work. The board's question would be whether management had made the uncertainty and next commitment explicit. I would not claim that the review avoided a measured loss or established a later commercial success; neither outcome is supplied by this fictional record.
My executive remit is substantial but bounded. I lead 214 product colleagues through eight direct reports with CNY 186 million delegated 2026 function expense. Qivaren's CNY 8.4 billion 2025 revenue and 7600 employees describe the company. Engineering, quality, factory operations, contracts and capital approvals remain separately owned. I have presented to the board as an executive since July 2018, but this account contains no statutory-director appointment. A first seat would require preparation for collective responsibility and the circumstances of the intended institution, rather than treating a CPO title as evidence that the transition has already been completed.
I would begin by learning the board's mandates, reserved decisions and information arrangements. Questions would go through the chair and agreed management channels. I would disclose employment, supplier, customer and personal relationships before the institution assessed fit and independence. Twenty-six days annually would be a provisional indication, subject to employer permission and the workload of the actual role. Committee participation would depend on the institution's assessment; this narrative makes no automatic claim to a specialist chair position or to eligibility in another jurisdiction.
All people, organisations and results here are invented. A real governance account would need verified appointments, authorised examples and evidence appropriate to the decisions described. The perspective I want the record to convey is that an industrial-product promise has a life beyond the presentation that introduces it. A board can ask whether the proposed commitment matches the development stage, installed obligations and customer evidence, without becoming the product team. I would contribute the experience of making those distinctions, including a claim I once approved and had to withdraw.
On governance
I think of an industrial portfolio as a relationship between what we introduce and what customers must continue to operate. Removing a catalogue line does not remove the installed equipment or its service needs. A successor may improve the proposition while requiring a different connection, migration plan or operating choice. Product leadership should explain that transition before celebrating a simpler range.

I would welcome a discussion about industrial product transitions, installed-base obligations or the evidence behind a range decision. A possible first-board role would require employer permission, preparation and a careful view of relationships and time. The fictional profile sells no equipment and offers no engineering approval. A real introduction should describe the portfolio question without sending proprietary drawings or customer installation records through an open channel; the relevant owners should agree the material appropriate for discussion.
