My contribution to a board
I could help a board examine the obligations that continue after a product is sold. A promise of adaptability may require parts and instructions to survive a move. A repair offer may need a version record and a service route. A support duration may depend on supply arrangements whose scope is less complete than the headline. These matters connect product strategy with resources, relationships and the commitments the enterprise makes to customers. They become board questions when material, without requiring directors to approve every component or installation.
The first-assembly mistake would be part of that contribution. I approved a visible demonstration before examining the work between configurations. The correction required expense and a narrower launch account. That experience helps me recognise how a persuasive product moment can conceal a continuing responsibility. It does not make me the technical owner of every assessment or prove effectiveness in a statutory role. I would bring questions about the promise and its operating basis, while leaving qualified practitioners and management accountable for the detailed decisions they are equipped to make.
Judgement in practice
01A renewal option with costs outside the replacement part
The forty-request review distinguished twenty-seven surface enquiries from thirteen requiring wider assessment. I would ask whether management's proposed repair route includes identification, condition review, approved compatibility and continuing stock. The ₹43 lakh development and ₹9 lakh annual provision are part of that proposition, not evidence of an automatic environmental or financial gain. Directors should understand how the new route changes the portfolio's economics and obligations. They need not decide the condition of an individual module to challenge an offer whose service work has been left unfunded.
02A long support claim ahead of its supply evidence
Four of six relevant arrangements had a documented basis for the proposed period, while two remained unresolved. I would ask what the enterprise is actually committing to and whether management's evidence covers the same scope. The narrowed statement and continuing provision gave up an attractive universal line. Oversight should examine that material trade-off, including unresolved positions and the owners responsible for them. A duration in the catalogue should not become a substitute for an account of the parts, information and service capacity required to sustain it.
My first year on a board
I would begin by understanding the product portfolio as a set of customer commitments, including those that outlast an initial transaction. What does the enterprise promise at purchase, at renewal and when a version changes? How are those promises reflected in the financial account and in the responsibilities of service, procurement and qualified design owners? I would want to learn the actual business before assuming that my present practice provides the right model. Similar product language can hide very different commercial and professional obligations.
With the chair's agreement, I would follow a few material portfolio decisions from the original brief to the experience of the responsible operating teams. The purpose would be to understand how the board receives evidence about continuing commitments, rather than create another product-approval meeting. I would ask for feedback on whether my questions help the collective discussion or pull it too far into execution. The first year should develop a useful oversight contribution, including recognition of where financial, legal or technical expertise from another director or adviser is more relevant than mine.
Conflicts and their management
My work involves clients, production partners, component suppliers, service providers, advisers and investors. An outside enterprise might share those relationships or compete for the same work even when its sector description appears different. I would disclose relevant professional and personal connections for the appropriate review. Some circumstances could require restricted participation; others could make an appointment unsuitable. I would not assume that declaring an interest removes every concern or that the absence of a personal shareholding makes the relationship assessment unnecessary.
Time also needs an honest examination. Twenty days is a provisional annual estimate, including preparation, induction and travel, with exceptional demands considered alongside the continuing CPO role. Employer consent and the ability to participate during a difficult period would matter. A role whose expectations exceed the available capacity should be declined or reconsidered before acceptance. I would prefer a clearly bounded opportunity that matches my preparation to a prestigious appointment supported only by optimism about fitting the work around existing responsibilities. The profile should make that position available to a nomination reader from the outset.
My independence statement
My current position is executive employment at Vazqelmi, with no personal shares or statutory appointment. I am an executive of this practice and cannot present that employment relationship as an independent appointment. A proposed outside role would require company-specific assessment under the relevant Companies Act criteria, including section 149(6), and applicable SEBI LODR provisions. Client, supplier, investor, adviser, employment and personal connections need appropriate disclosure and examination. The appointment and any committee responsibilities must also satisfy the applicable composition conditions and limits on directorships. The absence of equity does not settle those questions or establish suitability for a particular committee.

The seat I am pursuing
I would consider an initial board contribution where a product business is developing renewal, repair or supported reuse as part of its wider proposition. My experience could help directors question whether the continuing work is reflected in the commercial account. I am not offering immediate committee chairmanship or authority to certify an installation. The enterprise should need the perspective described here, with the relevant professional owners still responsible for design, materials, access, fire and other actual project requirements.
Before accepting, I would complete the necessary preparation and examine the specific eligibility, independence, relationships and time expectations. I have not registered in the IICA databank, and proficiency-assessment preparation remains unfinished without an exemption claimed. The fictional cases support a conversation about judgement, including a mistake I corrected, but they cannot establish effectiveness in a board seat I have never held. I would seek a chair willing to assess the contribution and the gaps together. The decision should be based on the company's needs and a realistic account of what I can bring, rather than on a product title alone.
Governance learning and readiness
IICA Independent Directors’ Databank: Not yet registered
This fictional preparation record has no IICA Independent Directors' Databank registration. Proficiency-assessment preparation is unfinished, and no exemption or completed assessment is asserted. Applicable requirements would need to be verified and fulfilled before an actual appointment.
- I am building financial and governance understanding alongside my product-development experience.
- I want to distinguish collective challenge to a product commitment from management's responsibility for individual designs.
- A senior product title is not presented as proof of completed statutory or committee preparation.
