My contribution to a board
I would help a board examine whether a numerical claim answers the question its label appears to ask. My experience concerns weighted averages, trading-date conventions and missing service reasons. Those are different analytical problems, but each can turn an accurate-looking figure into a stronger statement than the evidence supports. I would ask about the underlying population, boundary and uncertainty without expecting directors to reproduce the analysis. My current executive directorship has also taught me to separate explaining my function’s work from participating in a collective decision. The receiving enterprise needs its own data, financial, privacy and operating professionals. My contribution should help directors understand which question remains unresolved and which owner must address it. It should not create an alternative approval route for reports or imply that a technical specialist’s confidence replaces the judgement of the board as a whole.

The seat I am pursuing
I would consider one outside non-executive appointment where a consumer or service enterprise wants more careful challenge of the evidence behind commercial decisions. An experienced chair should explain how that perspective complements financial, sector and operational skills already represented. After completing the relevant preparation and assessment, I would initially contribute as a member of an appropriate information-risk or investment discussion rather than claim immediate readiness to chair a statutory committee. The company must assess the real appointment and applicable requirements. My current directorship is executive and does not establish independence for another role by itself. I would welcome questions about population, timing and missing evidence without being expected to approve every report or manage the analytical team. The aim is informed collective oversight, with a clear boundary between a director’s challenge and the professional work needed to answer it.
Judgement in practice
01The equally weighted days answered a different question
The synthetic example combined ten orders averaging ₹2,000 with ninety averaging ₹1,000. The order-level average was ₹1,100, while the simple average of the two daily values was ₹1,500. I would ask directors whether the measure’s population and weighting match the claim used in the recommendation. The board should know that I approved the earlier mismatch and that the subsequent repair retained seven unresolved uses. A useful oversight question concerns the definition and the effect on decisions, not whether directors can perform the arithmetic faster than analysts. Financial and commercial owners must assess any consequence in their own remit; the example does not establish a real sales loss or recovery.
02The missing explanation could not be supplied by a tidy chart
The returns review had 610 recorded reasons and 390 unknown ones within one thousand records. The 183 size codes represented 30% of the known-reason subset and 18.3% of the whole reviewed set. I would ask directors whether a presentation makes the missing group visible or quietly assumes it resembles the observed one. A selected forty-interaction review helped diagnose collection but did not establish all missing reasons. Oversight should examine the uncertainty and the proportionate next evidence, while service and privacy owners retain judgement about the customer process. I would not ask the board to mandate extra personal questions solely to improve a chart or to infer a product defect from incomplete reason codes.
My first year on a board
For an outside role I would begin by learning how the enterprise defines the measures used in its most consequential decisions. Through an agreed induction, I would follow one report from source meaning to executive recommendation and later board review. I would ask how a definition change is communicated and how management reports missing evidence without making the whole account unusable. Twenty-two annual days are a proposed allowance to test against my existing CDO and executive-director duties, not a commitment to unlimited availability. Reading, committee work, travel and exceptional events need discussion. I would seek feedback on whether my questions clarify the decision or encourage directors to become technical reviewers. My experience as an executive director is useful but does not establish expertise in every sector or committee. I would learn the receiving company’s financial and operating context before assuming that a familiar measure should be interpreted as it is at Zarqelvi.
Conflicts and their management
My employment, executive directorship and 0.2% holding create explicit interests in Zarqelvi. I also have access to customer-service records, trading patterns, partner arrangements and unpublished plans. A proposed outside role requires review of relationships involving employee owners, founders, service providers, commercial partners and competitors. I would set those connections out before receiving restricted papers and seek appropriate advice on eligibility, independence and committee responsibilities. Existing board service does not remove that assessment. I would not use another enterprise’s confidential trading data to improve my employer’s position or carry our customer records into its deliberations. Recusal might address a specific item, but frequent exclusion from the main information decisions could make the intended contribution impractical. The time required by both current roles and any employer or board permissions must be resolved. I would decline an appointment that depends on access I cannot properly provide or an operating duty I cannot sustain.
My independence statement
I am an employee, executive director and 0.2% shareholder of Zarqelvi, and I am not independent of that company. A possible outside appointment needs its own assessment of these interests and other relationships.
