Follow the task through the product decision
I shape industrial component trays around the complete task, the people using the arrangement and the development capacity we can responsibly commit.
01
Design the capacity around the complete component set
A tray can hold an impressive quantity of one part while the job stops for another. I ask the product team to follow the complete defined kit, including quantities per task, before using a capacity claim. Our six-job proposition failed that test because six spacers at two per job limited the nominal kits to three. Revising the tray to hold twelve spacers beside twenty-four clips supported six material kits for that defined arrangement, but did not establish actual production output. Scrap, process conditions and other inputs remained outside the calculation. I work with engineering and customer specialists on suitability while owning the proposition we communicate. This keeps a simple component count from becoming a broader promise about work that the product alone cannot complete or assure.
02
Make the relationship between the object and its explanation observable
A layout card can be clear in the designer's orientation and ambiguous when the product reaches the next person turned around. I study that relationship through defined tasks rather than assuming that a familiar drawing is self-explanatory. Our handover exercise led to an asymmetrical reference feature and a corresponding treatment on the card. Engineering retained design and release authority, and the product programme funded the work needed to make orientation easier to recognise. Twenty-seven of thirty-two repeat tasks were interpreted correctly, while five still needed assistance. I use that result within its examined scope, without claiming that every user or arrangement is now free of error. The capability concerns how physical and explanatory features work together, and where the product still requires an appropriate method or support.
03
Stage a custom request before it absorbs the product portfolio
A prospective customer's request can contain a real opportunity and still be too broad for the available team to commit at once. I examine the problem, commercial evidence, development effort and obligations to the existing range before recommending a programme. The fourteen-variant request would have taken nine of sixteen product colleagues for six months against an unconfirmed forecast. A four-variant feasibility stage gave management a smaller, defined decision and exposed two prototypes still requiring work. That was not a promise that the remaining ten variants would follow automatically. I want each stage to produce evidence relevant to the next commitment, with the opportunity cost visible. Product leadership means protecting the team's ability to serve a portfolio, not treating every attractive request as if it arrived without competing responsibilities.
04
Own the product promise without taking over specialist authority
I am responsible for the customer problem chosen, the proposition made and the priority given to development. Engineering head Bina Terqeshi retains technical suitability, safety and release, and customers retain their assembly processes. Those boundaries do not excuse a misleading product account. I approved the refill claim and funded its correction when the complete-kit arithmetic exposed the gap. I also support specialists when a prototype remains pending after a funded stage. The useful discussion distinguishes a product ambition, a demonstrated result and a release decision. Keeping them separate gives commercial colleagues a truthful account of what may be offered and what still needs examination. It also gives the CEO a clearer basis for allocating scarce people and capital across the range.
A leadership conviction
A full compartment is not a complete job. A clear layout can become ambiguous when the tray arrives from another direction. A customer's long wish list is not yet a funded product range. I want the product decision to follow the whole task and the obligations created by our promise.
