Director, Process and Utilities Excellence mandate in Pune, India · Speciality Packaging Films

Establish a permanent technical operations function that protects film quality during utility disturbances, links energy consumption to saleable output and turns process improvement into reproducible operating standards across two packaging-film facilities.

The mandate

Film operations can lose a complete production run when cooling performance drifts or compressed-air stability deteriorates, even though the utility dashboard remains within its monthly budget. This director will connect process conditions to the services that sustain them. The problem is not simply excessive energy spending: intermittent disturbances are being absorbed as unexplained yield loss, slower operating speeds and repeated adjustment of nominally identical recipes.

The appointment is open-ended employment. Its first eighteen months will establish a common reliability baseline across two facilities, a prioritised utility intervention programme and operating standards that survive shift changes. Sixteen specialists form the central perimeter, working with each facility's engineering and production managers. Pune is the base; regular visits to the second site are necessary to observe equipment behaviour and test whether an apparently transferable improvement actually holds under different operating conditions.

The director can set process-monitoring standards, approve controlled trials within established quality limits and sequence funded improvement work. Production managers retain daily scheduling, qualified engineers retain equipment safety and environmental specialists retain statutory compliance. Changes to installed protective systems, material capital expenditure or customer-approved product specifications need their designated authorisation. An improvement may not be declared successful merely because a trial ran quickly while producing film that later failed conversion or customer requirements.

The role will build an evidence chain from disturbances to operating consequences: measured service conditions, affected batches, validated product properties and saleable output. It excludes construction project management, commercial energy trading and certification of products for new medical uses. Decisions should distinguish preventive reliability work from opportunistic efficiency savings and preserve a workable fallback when an intervention cannot be completed during the available shutdown. The continuing remit includes coaching technical managers to retain that discipline after the initial performance programme ends.

What you will own

  • Define the critical service envelope for casting, orientation, coating and metallising operations, identifying which measured deviations threaten stability or product properties and assigning a response before operators compensate informally.
  • Establish an energy-per-saleable-output baseline that accounts for grade mix, startup material and rejected batches, preventing an apparent efficiency gain created solely by moving waste outside the reported production boundary.
  • Prioritise reliability interventions using the observed frequency and consequence of disturbances, balancing preventive maintenance, standby capacity and operating changes against production access and the practical ability to implement them safely.
  • Authorise bounded process trials with production and quality leaders, specifying instrumentation, comparison conditions, retention samples and rollback criteria so experimental results remain interpretable after the immediate operating team changes.
  • Translate validated improvements into shift instructions, alarm responses and technical training, checking adoption through observed decisions rather than treating circulation of a revised procedure as proof of effective implementation.
  • Evaluate utility capital proposals against process sensitivity and downside production exposure, presenting which improvements are essential for dependable output and which depend on uncertain future throughput or optimistic savings assumptions.
  • Develop process and utilities managers who can investigate interacting causes, preserve failed-trial evidence and explain why a proposed change is justified without substituting a persuasive dashboard for a controlled technical conclusion.

Candidate qualifications

  • Bring 12–18 years in polymer films, flexible packaging or closely related continuous-process manufacturing, with leadership responsibility beyond a single technical shift. Show where you traced a production or quality loss to utility behaviour and changed the operating response. Evidence must include the production boundary, measured conditions and the product consequence, not only an annual energy-saving percentage.
  • Demonstrate practical depth in at least two relevant film processes, such as cast film, double-bubble orientation, vacuum metallising or offline coating. Explain the interaction between operating conditions and downstream suitability, including an improvement you rejected because it compromised a product property or simply relocated loss into conversion. Qualification in engineering or another relevant technical discipline should support your judgement.
  • Possess applied energy-management capability, supported by a recognised energy-manager credential or equivalent substantial responsibility for industrial utilities. Meter placement, normalisation, load behaviour and standby requirements must be understood well enough to challenge misleading comparisons. You must also recognise when a qualified electrical, pressure-system or environmental specialist must make the technical decision rather than treating broad operations experience as universal certification.
  • Have built improvement capability among production and engineering managers, with controlled trials, clear rollback rules and verification across shifts. Lean Six Sigma training is valuable where used to investigate variation rather than decorate presentations. Provide an example of retaining an unpopular but necessary reliability investment, or refusing a savings claim whose evidence did not survive review of saleable output and sustained operating performance.

Application

Applications for this mandate are received in one way only: through the India Board Terminal's application process. It is automated end to end. Your Executive Passport travels to the mandate holder in its confidential form, your answers to the three questions below are read before anything else in your file, and every stage that follows is recorded on your applications page.

There is no address to write to and no intermediary to call. The mandate holder reads what the Terminal delivers and nothing else, which is what keeps the process the same for every applicant and keeps your name out of it until you release it. Applications close on 14 October 2026. Mandate reference CVU-PER-2026-IND-215.
