Trade Instruments, Discounting and Risk-Gate Workflow mandate in Mumbai, India · Trade and Supply-Chain Banking

Build a five-month trade programme workflow package, translating instrument, discounting and settlement dependencies into tested responsibility gates and internal acceptance without credit approval, legal opinions, customer financing commitments or production platform implementation.

The mandate

Trade instruments and discounting programme flows move through inconsistent documentary, operating and approval gates. The consultant will create a workflow design that makes those boundaries testable. The defined task is process evidence and responsibility design, not financing approval, legal interpretation of instruments or a production technology implementation programme.

The deliverable is a Trade and Discounting Workflow Gatebook with instrument evidence requirements, participant onboarding steps, settlement exceptions and retained approval maps. Core trade and receivables arrangements will retain their legitimate differences. The gatebook must identify which owner can advance a case and which missing condition requires a hold rather than a routine processing workaround.

Documentary and settlement handoffs enter project discovery on 19 October 2026. The opening workflow baseline is due on 4 December 2026; designed gates and a controlled instrument-case rehearsal follow on 29 January 2027. Fresh-case validation and the complete operator pack close the five-month term on 18 March 2027. Invoicing is linked to acceptance: one quarter at baseline, 35% after rehearsal and the remaining 40% after operator validation.

The trade finance head and operations risk sponsor jointly accept the work. They must run a difficult instrument or discounting case through the gatebook, identify retained credit and legal decisions and reproduce the exception route. Final acceptance requires internal operators to use a fresh case without consultant judgement or an informal waiver of missing documentary evidence.

The sponsor provides approved product rules, anonymised instrument and settlement cases, existing procedures and access to authorised legal and risk reviewers. Sensitive customer material is restricted and production access is read-only. Credit adjudication, customer negotiation, platform procurement and legal opinions are excluded; additional instrument scope or material reconstruction requires signed change control with revised tests and milestones.

What you will own

  • Catalogue instrument and discounting handoffs with documentary and retained-risk owners, identifying unapproved workarounds before drafting the proposed trade programme gate structure or exception and settlement routing rules.
  • Define progression evidence separately for core trade, receivables and discounting cases, preserving product differences instead of forcing every instrument through identical approval or operating readiness conditions.
  • Map participant onboarding and settlement responsibilities to authorised decisions, preventing a completed operations checklist from implying credit, legal or compliance approval that has not actually been granted.
  • Construct hold and escalation rules with retained specialists, showing how operators should preserve uncertainty when instrument interpretation or documentary sufficiency remains disputed outside their normal processing authority.
  • Rehearse the gatebook on difficult settlement or documentation cases, recording ownership failures and the conditions for reconsideration rather than treating workshop consensus as evidence of executable control.
  • Validate internal operators on a fresh instrument or programme case, observing whether they route missing approvals correctly without relying on consultant interpretation or unapproved customer commitments.
  • Deliver the accepted gatebook, maintenance triggers and operator guide with financing execution, legal opinions and production platform changes explicitly separated from completed consulting design and acceptance.

Candidate qualifications

  • Demonstrate responsible trade product, instrument operations or workflow transformation delivery with a personally built approval or exception artefact. Provide a redacted case where the gate design changed processing behaviour. Candidates must identify method and retained authority, rather than treating senior banking tenure as automatic credit, legal or customer commitment power.
  • Show practical understanding of trade instruments, receivables and discounting workflows, including documentary and settlement dependencies. Explain a case held because evidence or approval was missing. The consultant must preserve authorised specialist interpretations and recognise where product finance logic cannot resolve legal, compliance or credit questions outside the project scope.
  • Provide project evidence with controlled case tests, dated outputs and objective joint acceptance. Describe a fresh-case failure and the rework required. No particular platform or analytical software is prescribed; the deliverable must remain usable by internal trade operators and accurately distinguish a processing instruction from a retained approval or legal conclusion.
  • Establish twenty-three years of relevant experience, confidentiality and a completed workflow-method transfer. Disclose financing-platform, participant and implementation-linked remuneration, avoiding fees tied to financed volume. New instruments or substantive source reconstruction must be scoped and priced before work, and the accepted design cannot authorise customer financing or guarantee legal instrument sufficiency.
