Vice President, AI Controls — Interim Governance Continuity
Urgent / Replacement
Vice President, AI Controls mandate in Bengaluru, India · Financial Services AI Platforms
Hold a nine-month executive AI controls seat, stabilise release evidence and unresolved governance decisions, and hand an operating specialist control office to the permanent Vice President without absorbing enterprise technology ownership.
The mandate
Several financial-services product releases await AI controls evidence review and the specialist control office needs an executive leader. Specialists remain in place, but unresolved acceptance conditions and inconsistent release records now depend on informal recollection. The interim Vice President holds executive leadership of the specialist control office, restoring a reliable decision perimeter without presuming authority over the entire technology organisation.
The nine-month term begins on 26 October 2026 and includes a parallel permanent VP search. The opening month establishes the live release register, unfulfilled conditions and immediate evidence priorities; subsequent work restores the control review rhythm and develops team leadership. An agreed extension may address successor timing, subject to an overall twenty-four-month cap on total engagement duration.
Exit requires a successor-led review of the material AI release population, traceable ownership of open conditions and demonstrated operation of the escalation process. Priority safeguards must have reviewed evidence or an authorised, explicitly recorded exception. Handover cannot be declared complete because a backlog count falls if unresolved cases have simply been closed through assumptions no accountable risk owner accepted.
The VP may allocate the control team's work, determine evidence sufficiency recommendations and pause its own release recommendation where agreed tests are incomplete. Product deployment authority, regulated policy exceptions and material risk acceptance remain with designated executives and the steering group. The interim does not own enterprise infrastructure, credit sanctioning decisions or legal interpretation of cross-jurisdiction AI obligations.
Scope excludes a wholesale model redevelopment, general cybersecurity remediation and redesign of unrelated governance committees. Limited process repairs must make existing release decisions inspectable and repeatable. The assignment should end with a functioning AI controls office, capable specialist leaders and a permanent executive who understands its residual exposures, not an enlarged set of responsibilities acquired because adjacent teams also require help.
What you will own
- Triage the active release register into complete evidence, conditional acceptance and unresolved risk decisions, making each status traceable to a named owner rather than a historical meeting impression.
- Decide specialist assurance priorities through workflow consequence and release dependency, protecting the team's capacity for material evidence gaps instead of allowing every product request equal urgency.
- Reconstruct outstanding release conditions from controlled artifacts and accountable owner confirmation, escalating cases where apparent approval cannot be supported rather than treating silence as permission to proceed.
- Govern the control office's recommendation process, preserving clear distinction between evidence sufficiency, independent risk acceptance and product deployment authority in every decision submitted to the steering group.
- Establish a sampled operating review for accepted safeguards, identifying conditions that were documented at launch but have not remained effective as tools, instructions or product use changed.
- Develop two specialist team leads through witnessed review decisions, ensuring the control office can sustain its operating cadence when the permanent executive inherits the seat.
- Deliver the executive handover through a successor-led release review and escalation simulation, securing sponsor acceptance of residual conditions, team ownership and the transferred specialist authority.
Candidate qualifications
- Demonstrate senior AI governance, innovation-control or compliance programme leadership in financial services, including direct involvement in release evidence and risk decision coordination. Describe an inherited approval record whose status was uncertain, how you established the actual condition and what decision route restored accountable ownership without inventing retrospective assurance.
- Bring practical knowledge of generative AI or agent autonomy safeguards, with the ability to inspect evidence of permission boundaries, intervention and lifecycle change. The role requires understanding what a control test establishes and what it cannot establish. Explain how you handled residual uncertainty without either blocking every release or recommending deployment on unsupported confidence.
- Show executive leadership of a specialist team under time pressure, including work prioritisation and constructive challenge of senior product sponsors. Relevant proof should include clear delegation, a recorded escalation and development of reviewers who could repeat your judgement process. Broad technology experience must not be confused with authority over unrelated infrastructure or regulated policy responsibilities.
- Establish near-term availability for a five-day assignment and disciplined transfer to a permanent leader. Provide evidence of an operating rehearsal used at handover and of residual issues accepted by the proper sponsor. Concurrent work must not compromise release-review response or the independence needed to assess sensitive financial-services control evidence.
