Selecting the freight opportunity before funding the pursuit
I help a commercial team distinguish the attractiveness of a shipper from the suitability of the freight being offered. A recognisable account can still ask for lanes, timing or service conditions that the current proposition does not support. My contribution is to bring those questions into the marketing recommendation while sales and operations retain their respective authority. In the eighty-four-invitation review, the decision record mattered as much as the final count. A refusal needed a stated reason and a condition under which the opportunity could return. I would not use a higher win percentage, calculated after narrowing the denominator, as independent proof that the selection was better. The capability is a disciplined conversation about fit, effort and alternatives. It requires enough market knowledge to recognise opportunity and enough operating humility to avoid describing every attractive demand as work the company should pursue.
