Siddharth VelmankarLeadership review 2026

The boardroom · 2026

The board account should retain the conditions that the sales description compresses.

I would ask a healthcare-equipment board to examine the connection between a product claim and the setting in which the customer must use it. A specification can be accurate yet omit a material condition of fit. A comprehensive package can conceal the need for a more appropriate configuration. A dispatch milestone can be complete while installation remains unresolved. Where those distinctions affect the business promise, directors need management’s evidence and its limits rather than a catalogue description alone.

My fictional executive scope is a ninety-six-person product function with six direct reports and ₹31 crore delegated FY 2026–27 expense. The company’s revenue and employment provide scale around the role. Engineering, clinical assessment, quality and regulatory work, manufacturing, service, sales and finance remain under their respective leaders. I would bring experience of product choices that connect those responsibilities, not a claim that a CPO can determine every specialist conclusion through commercial judgement.

The workstation case illustrates a material assumption exposed before the offer was finalised. A 750-millimetre proposal met research showing restricted bench depth. We selected a smaller design for further evaluation, with eleven of sixteen site-fit reviews accepting and five requiring another configuration. I would want an oversight account to retain the relevant setting and remaining conditions. The board should understand why scope changed, while technical suitability and the actual design remain with the appropriate owners.

My earlier outer-carton decision provides a different kind of evidence. I approved symmetry that obscured the opening cue in a dummy-material study. An asymmetric revision still left five of thirty participants confused, so further review remained necessary. The lesson for collective judgement is to ask whether a favourable revision has been made to sound more complete than the observations justify. It is not to prescribe packaging from the boardroom or infer a clinical result from a limited task study.

The configuration cases also require precision. A cabinet’s fixed compartment count did not accommodate bulky sealed packs at some sites. A thirty-six-part accessory bundle did not match every routine use pattern. The selected alternatives retained customers with broader needs and the assessments required for appropriate combinations. I would want management to describe the cost and operating work of that variation, rather than present a smaller common offer as an automatic financial improvement or assume that every optional part is unnecessary.

Installation makes the distinction between milestones and promises especially clear. Seventy-three of ninety pilot units were installed at review and seventeen remained pending. We kept those states separate from shipment and from finance’s determination of recognition. A board account should identify material unresolved dependencies and the management owners responsible for them. Directors can question the completeness of that account without becoming the people scheduling site preparation or deciding technical suitability themselves.

I have presented product matters to the board as an executive since July 2021. The invented chronology contains no statutory seat. Before a first appointment, I would prepare for collective director responsibilities and the actual company’s governance arrangements, including the evidence it uses for clinical, quality, regulatory and commercial decisions. Committee participation would need to match its mandate and my preparation. The product title alone does not establish readiness to chair a specialist committee or assess an unfamiliar healthcare obligation.

Relevant employment, customer, supplier, investor and personal connections would require disclosure and assessment. Twenty-four annual days would remain provisional pending employer agreement and the demands of induction, meetings and exceptional work. The page cannot decide independence or suitability. All examples are fictional; a real public record would need verified appointments and authorised evidence while protecting patient, customer and proprietary material. The contribution illustrated is a habit of making the practical conditions inside a product promise visible enough for a collective decision.

On governance

I want a product specification to describe work that can happen in the customer’s actual setting. A broad catalogue cannot compensate for a workstation that does not fit, storage that excludes the supplied pack or an installation whose prerequisites remain unresolved. I ask the product team to make those conditions part of the offer while preserving the assessments that engineering, quality, clinical and regulatory specialists must own.

I would consider a discussion about healthcare-workflow product fit, portfolio scope or a prospective first board contribution. Any appointment would require preparation, employer agreement, relationship assessment and realistic time. This invented profile supplies no medical advice, equipment offer or regulatory assessment. An initial note should describe the product question without patient information, restricted drawings or customer procurement records.
