Mandate
Make base benefits, optional elements and proposed product changes distinguishable in the proposition presented for consideration.
Outcomes
- Separated the physical-damage base from the optional income element after 78 of 120 owners misinterpreted the 2023 prototype.
- Supported CNY 12 million development and retained 19 unresolved interpretations in a different 100-person exercise, delaying the proposed launch.
- Distinguished 24 benefit-limit changes from 12 presentation revisions in the 2025 proposed-renewal comparison.
Decisions in context
The CPO appointment made me responsible for the coherence of the product account across a wider range. Coherence could not mean using the same reassuring description when the underlying propositions differed. The small-shop review required an option to remain visibly optional even when the package name made a single story attractive. The renewal comparison required a change in benefit limits to remain different from a change in presentation. Those decisions belonged in an executive explanation alongside their cost and remaining uncertainty. My delegated expense supported product development and research, not authority over all company premium or every claims decision. I began presenting to the board in July 2019 without taking a statutory seat. The chronology records product choices and bounded interpretation findings; it does not convert them into live-policy approvals, sales results or a claim that the function settled every specialised question surrounding the proposition.
Reason for the move
Promoted from portfolio leadership into the enterprise product remit; current role.
