A public introduction that keeps the technical meaning

Duty Curve Journal

Fictional editorial demonstration

The schedule behind the preferred pump

In this invented interview, I explain the three operating points used in a twelve-hour reference comparison. The chosen design draws more power at one point, a condition retained in the recommendation. The discussion separates measured inputs, calculated daily totals and any future customer claim. It asks why the duty assumptions should be agreed before a test is commissioned rather than selected after the results favour a particular product.

Dimensional Judgement Review

Fictional editorial demonstration

What the value near the limit can support

This fictional feature examines a shaft measurement whose central value and uncertainty need to be considered together under an agreed rule. I describe the resources needed to improve the measurement arrangement and the extra preparation time it introduced. The account keeps the quality decision with its authorised owner and asks why measurement capability should join the design discussion before the tolerance becomes a scheduling assumption.

Installed Product Letters

Fictional editorial demonstration

A common cartridge with an honest service boundary

For this illustrative product discussion, I describe a component programme that retained a supported route for earlier equipment. The new assembly did not become universally interchangeable merely because the catalogue became simpler. The article follows the conversion-kit condition, the parts cost and the continuing original service obligation. It asks how field-service knowledge can influence the concept before the commercial story has become difficult to revise.

Repair Task Review

Fictional editorial demonstration

A shorter workshop task is a useful result

This invented conversation considers a modular wear assembly and a small paired service exercise. I retain the added material and initial manufacturing cost alongside the observed task times. The discussion explains why repairability can have value without an unsupported whole-life environmental assertion, and why proposed public claims should be discussed early enough to determine what evidence the development programme is actually expected to provide.

Component Continuity Review

Fictional editorial demonstration

A final purchase and a redesign remain two commitments

In this fictional editorial example, I examine a supplier-obsolescence response that combines bounded inventory with an ongoing redesign. The planning period is not assured demand coverage, and prototype preparation is not release. The account connects service consumption, development progress and the review points needed for another decision. It argues for mature-product component review before a supplier deadline makes the available choices unnecessarily narrow.

Media biography

Ethan Mercier is a fictional Canadian CTO whose mechanical engineering career began in June 1994. After graduating from Arvendell Institute, he worked at Norevale Instruments and joined Caldriven Motion in 2002. His subsequent appointments progressed through product engineering leadership, engineering director and vice-president before CTO in January 2021.

He currently leads 214 employees through six direct reports, with 36 contractors separately, and holds C$88 million of 2026 authority. Caldriven's fictional company context is 6,200 employees, four North American sites and C$2.4 billion 2025 revenue. His professional work concerns product performance, measurement capability and the design choices that affect installed service.

Ethan has been a non-executive director of Belverne Skills Foundation since July 2019, a separate twelve-day annual commitment. He does not hold a Caldriven board seat or claim committee-chair experience. His essays and sessions examine the conditions behind engineering conclusions and the wider decisions they inform. The editorial outlets presented here are invented to demonstrate the website and do not represent real appearances or endorsements.

Short speaker biography

Ethan Mercier is a fictional Canadian industrial CTO with 32 years of mechanical and product-engineering experience. He leads 214 employees at Caldriven Motion, where his work connects operating duty, measurement and service obligations. He also serves as a non-executive director of Belverne Skills Foundation. His talks examine the conditions behind a product claim and the decisions those conditions should shape.

Standard speaker biography

Ethan Mercier is the fictional CTO of Caldriven Motion, a Toronto-headquartered manufacturer of industrial pumps and fluid-handling assemblies. He began his career in June 1994 after a mechanical engineering degree, progressing from design through product leadership and engineering portfolios. His current remit comprises 214 employees through six direct reports, with 36 contractors separately, and C$88 million of 2026 authority. Ethan's writing and speaking examine performance over an operating duty, measurement near a specification limit and the service responsibilities created by product design. He has also been a non-executive director of Belverne Skills Foundation since July 2019. That appointment is separate from executive presentations to Caldriven's board, and he makes no audit-chair claim.

Extended speaker biography

Ethan Mercier is a fictional Canada-based technology leader whose career began as a mechanical designer at Norevale Instruments in June 1994. He completed his mechanical engineering degree at Arvendell Institute the preceding month. In 2002 he joined Caldriven Motion, later becoming engineering director, vice-president of product engineering and CTO in January 2021. His 32-year career concerns the relationship between a product's measured performance, intended duty and continuing service obligations.

Caldriven is presented as a Toronto-headquartered industrial pump and fluid-handling manufacturer with four North American sites, 6,200 employees and C$2.4 billion 2025 revenue. Ethan leads 214 employees through six direct reports, with 36 contractors counted separately. His 2026 authority is C$88 million, divided between product engineering and testing/industrialisation. He reports to chief executive Adele Vensault, while quality, product-safety and operating decisions retain their authorised owners.

His illustrative cases cover a duty-based pump comparison, measurement capability, a service-compatible component family, a replaceable wear assembly and an ongoing component-obsolescence transition. He speaks to engineering, commercial and governance audiences about making such choices understandable without extending a result beyond its conditions. Ethan has served as a non-executive director of Belverne Skills Foundation since July 2019, allocating twelve annual days to that role. Any further appointment would require a separate calendar and relationship review.

An invitation

Contact

I welcome a board or advisory discussion where an engineered product has a long life and technology choices create continuing obligations. My existing skills-foundation directorship requires twelve annual days; a further eighteen would bring the proposed external total to thirty, subject to the actual calendars and consent. For speaking, I am interested in an audience willing to examine a product claim closely, including the condition under which an attractive engineering choice becomes less suitable.
