Decisions in context
I took the CIO role with a mandate to connect enterprise investment to the promises carried by the publishing business. Celia Varncombe became my principal reporting relationship, while editorial and commercial owners retained authority over their respective decisions. My team now has 118 employees and five direct reports, with contractors counted separately from that headcount. The current financial authority divides operating services from change, so a launch programme does not obscure its continuing cost. I have concentrated on the meaning that must survive subscription migration, correction delivery, archive use and integration. The resulting accounts contain assisted entitlements, pending confirmations and deliberately retained interfaces where those conditions remain material. I present these decisions to the board as an executive, without a director seat. The work has made me more precise about what an enterprise-system result establishes and which further conclusion still needs another owner or a later examination.
Reason for the move
Current role; exploring a complementary board contribution subject to consent, preparation and a specific calendar.
