An invitation
Begin with the decision your audience is trying to understand
Describe the customer decision or service relationship you want to examine before sending a broad event or advisory proposal. I can usefully discuss the explanation of operating assumptions, partner learning and the handover from a proposition to an ongoing relationship. A first message should identify the question, intended audience and responsibility of the people involved. Please leave confidential site information, customer records, unpublished commercial terms and technical designs out of the initial approach. If the enquiry concerns a board role, outline the business model, ownership, expected contribution and calendar so that relevance and capacity can be considered together. A speaking invitation should distinguish an educational discussion from a request for technical or investment advice. I would prefer to clarify the scope early, including the questions that need a different specialist. Any continuing appointment requires employer agreement and review of the relevant relationships before a commitment is discussed.
