Sheet 09 · The boardroom
What the institution must be able to support behind the offer
I bring a household-product perspective to executive board discussions at Hoshinora Communications. I have presented in that capacity since July 2020, while holding no statutory directorship. The distinction matters to the contribution I describe. I can explain decisions within my function and how they connect to the continuing customer proposition. I do not present that experience as an independent appointment, committee-chair credential or substitute for the preparation required by a first board role. The fictional record is deliberately specific about what I have done and what remains prospective.
The governance question I return to is whether the institution can sustain the meaning of its offer when the household’s circumstances change. A moving service may need an overlap period. A package migration may erase preferences that the user expects to retain. A request for better internet may concern one room rather than the connection tier. These are practical product questions, but their consequences reach beyond the interface. The offer depends on operating arrangements, resources, specialist judgement and explanations that must agree with one another if management’s account is to be credible.
My role is to make the choice and its boundaries visible. In the 2023 moving-service work, we developed overlap and same-day paths after research identified both intentions. The eighty-household pilot recorded forty-nine overlap selections and thirty-one same-day selections. Those are product choices, not eighty completed activations or a finding of uninterrupted service. I would want a board paper to retain that distinction. Directors should be able to ask what evidence exists for each part of the proposition and what management still needs to establish before the company makes a commitment to a particular household.
I also want the account to include decisions I changed. In 2004 I approved reset logic that removed customised favourites from thirty-eight tested profiles. Mirei Hatamori challenged the assumption, and we allocated JPY 28 million to preserving preferences. Five of fifty-four profiles in a later check still needed manual review. The revised decision matters, but so does my earlier approval and the work left unresolved. A governance narrative becomes less useful when it treats every challenge as an anonymous process discovery and removes the sponsor whose judgement helped the problem become established.
Present responsibilities have defined limits. I lead 164 colleagues through seven direct reports with JPY 2.9 billion 2026 function expense. The company’s JPY 348 billion calendar-year 2025 revenue and 6200 employees describe the wider institution. They are not my personal spending authority, and the product function does not absorb network operation or installation responsibilities. A product route also cannot supply a privacy finding merely because it distinguishes viewing profiles from billing administration. The relevant technical, contractual and specialist work must remain accountable to people equipped and authorised to perform it.
For a prospective board, I would contribute questions about the relationship among the offer, the customer’s changing situation and the service needed to support it. I would seek to understand how those questions fit the institution’s strategy and financial position, rather than try to run product development through a non-executive channel. A customer or strategy committee might be relevant if the actual skills need matched my verified experience. I do not claim readiness to chair a committee from executive exposure alone. Collective judgement needs a broader account than the product function’s preferred solution.
Any appointment would require examination of current employment and relationships across communications, media, equipment and distribution. Twenty-four annual days are only an initial capacity indication, conditional on induction, preparation, exceptional demands and employer agreement. Protected household data and unreleased commercial plans would remain outside an introductory discussion. I would want a board to assess a candidate who can make a transition concrete, accept challenge to an approved assumption and state the evidence still missing. Those habits could support oversight, but the institution must determine the role, independence position and preparation that its actual circumstances require.
On governance
I want a subscription to remain understandable when a household changes its address, package, viewing pattern or use of a room. The customer should not have to rediscover what the product silently resets or bundles together. My job is to make those transitions part of the proposition, with the operational and specialist conditions stated before the product is treated as ready.

I would discuss household subscription design, product transitions or a possible first-board contribution where the question fits this experience. Outside work would require employer agreement and a review of the relevant commercial relationships. The examples are fictional and do not recommend a connectivity package, interpret a customer contract or certify service performance.
