Ask which conditions the proposed claim has actually met

My contribution to a board

I would help a board examine whether a product claim stays within the conditions its evidence actually represents. My experience includes a static demonstration overtaken by repeated-load results, a positioning total that concealed a handedness-specific limitation and a shared-room response tail obscured by the median. Those examples give me practical questions about population, configuration and the next commitment being proposed. They do not confer authority over educational assessment, clinical competence or every commercial judgement connected with the equipment. I have presented engineering matters to directors but have not served as a statutory director. A first contribution would require learning the receiving enterprise as a whole and working alongside colleagues with complementary expertise. I would aim to make the remaining engineering question intelligible enough for collective oversight without turning the board into another product-review panel or treating my familiar methods as the answer to every business uncertainty.

Judgement in practice

01

Revising an approval when the next use condition changed the evidence

I approved a mount after an initial static check, but twelve of forty rigs later tilted during the reviewed repeated-load sequence. We held 240 preproduction units before shipment and spent ₹62 lakh on redesign, adding seven weeks. I would ask a board what conditions management's acceptance statement represents and who can reopen it when later evidence changes the conclusion. The successful hold mattered, but it did not erase my earlier responsibility or the cost. The governance contribution is to preserve the relationship between evidence and commitment, while leaving the detailed mechanical investigation with the qualified team rather than having directors prescribe the next loading sequence.

02

Looking inside a favourable total to see the group it did not serve

Of seventy-two participants, forty-eight were right-handed and twenty-four left-handed. All in the first group and eighteen in the second met the reviewed positioning criterion; six left-handed participants did not. We funded ₹84 lakh of adjustable-mount work and deferred the broader suitability claim. I would ask a board who is represented in a product's evidence and whether the distribution changes the decision. A small review cannot establish every user's experience, but its limitations should not disappear behind a passing majority. Funding a redesign also does not prove a learning outcome. The useful challenge keeps the population and the remaining evaluation attached to the commercial statement management wants to make.

03

Keeping an unresolved installation result in the release decision

After 1,200 cassette-installation attempts produced 108 mis-seated results, we spent ₹58 lakh on latch redesign. A separate 200-attempt review had 196 correct installations and four unresolved results. Broader release remained paused. I would help a board distinguish a promising configuration from evidence sufficient for the next commitment, without comparing unequal samples as though they established a universal improvement. The spend did not oblige management to announce success, and most attempts being correct did not explain the remaining four. My contribution would be to ask which question is still open, what further work addresses it and why the proposed release scope is supportable.

My first year on a board

I would begin by learning the receiving enterprise's business model, customer obligations and the way product decisions affect its finances and people. Through an agreed induction, I would follow several important claims from the underlying evidence into the proposal directors are asked to approve. I would also study sector requirements outside my current teaching-equipment experience, rather than assume that an engineering analogy settles them. My questions should help colleagues understand the commitment and its uncertainty without inviting direct instructions to design teams. I would ask the chair for feedback on whether my interventions were proportionate and useful to the collective discussion. A successful first year would broaden my judgement beyond technical acceptance, help me understand the commercial consequences of different evidence thresholds and make my practical experience valuable alongside the expertise already present on the board. I would expect some of my initial assumptions to change as that learning developed.

Conflicts and their management

Before receiving confidential papers, I would disclose my 4% shareholding, executive appointment and relevant relationships through Tevzuni's founders, employee owners, college customers, suppliers and advisers. The receiving company would need qualified assessment of the particular role, independence and applicable company-law or listing obligations, including relevant committee and directorship limits. I would obtain employer consent and examine whether exclusions required to manage conflicts would still permit a useful contribution. Disclosure is necessary but does not make every relationship manageable. Protected designs, customer evaluation records and commercial terms from my present work would remain with their owners. Review would need to continue as interests and relationships changed. I would decline a role if its restrictions or time demands prevented me from contributing to the whole board's responsibility with the attention it required, rather than accept first and leave those conditions to be resolved later.

My independence statement

My 4% of total company equity sits within the employee owners' 40%. That holding, my executive role and relationships through customers and suppliers require qualified review for a proposed outside appointment. I hold no statutory seat, but that does not establish independence.

The seat I am pursuing

I am interested in one first outside appointment in a specialist equipment or educational-technology enterprise where engineering evidence is relevant to product and investment oversight. Risk or technology-committee membership might fit after the company reviewed its needs and the applicable requirements; I do not claim committee-chair readiness from CTO experience alone. My fictional IICA registration in June 2026 is a preparation fact, with the assessment unfinished and no exemption. It does not establish eligibility for a particular seat. Twenty-one provisional days must include induction, reading, meetings, travel and exceptional demands alongside my executive work. I would seek an experienced chair, complementary skills and a clear expectation of contribution. The role should support responsible collective judgement under practical conditions I can meet, rather than become an additional title whose conflicts, workload or learning requirements have not been properly considered.

IICA Independent Directors’ Databank: Registered

The fictional record includes IICA registration in June 2026. I still need to complete the proficiency assessment; the fictional record does not claim an exemption. Any proposed appointment needs separate qualified review of eligibility, independence and applicable committee or directorship requirements.

  • Develop collective oversight judgement beyond engineering approval responsibility
  • Learn the receiving company's commercial, financial and sector obligations
  • Test a product claim without directing the design team or substituting for educators
