A public proposition carries responsibilities across the business

I believe a board should be able to follow the customer's understanding into the company's account of growth. The public proposition may be expressed in a few words, but its consequences extend across product design, distribution, service and risk. Marketing can help connect those areas. It should not be allowed to describe the promise as complete simply because a campaign has launched or a formal review has been recorded.

My relevant experience is executive. Since April 2020 I have presented Naviratha's board with marketing recommendations and the evidence behind them. I have never served as a director. I would approach a first appointment with respect for the wider responsibility involved, including financial matters and stakeholder interests outside my current function. Passing a proficiency assessment is a learning milestone in this fictional record, not a substitute for appointment-specific eligibility or the work of induction.

The fee-explanation case makes a useful distinction between a condition being present and a customer understanding it. The selected study gave us a reason to improve the wording, but it also left twelve participants in the revised group unable to answer correctly. A board should not be asked to approve each sentence of an advertisement. It can ask whether management's account of clarity has an adequate basis, whether material concerns are reaching the right owners and whether the commercial objective has crowded out the question the customer needs answered.

Acquisition reporting raises another oversight issue. The same ₹2.4 Cr campaign expenditure can be divided by applications, funded accounts or the accounts meeting a stated activity criterion. The resulting costs are mathematically valid but answer different questions. A board assessing further allocation needs to know which relationship management intends to create, how the measure is defined and whether the observation period is complete. None of those calculations alone establishes lifetime value, profitability or a causal effect attributable solely to the campaign.

I would also ask how a company preserves meaning when it operates in several languages. Translation is often treated as a delivery stage after strategic choices have been made. Yet a changed condition can alter the proposition itself. In the fictional clause review, five selected translations needed correction. Holding affected material had a practical cost. The governance question is whether the organisation gives responsible reviewers enough authority to make that change, even when the media timetable creates pressure to proceed. Independent language review and customer testing serve different purposes and should be described accordingly.

Customer education demands particular restraint in public claims. Our safe scenario exercise measured an intended response to a simulated situation; it did not measure actual fraud or financial losses. I supported further expenditure with that limitation intact. For oversight, the useful discussion concerns the programme's purpose, its connection with service and specialist teams, and what evidence would support expansion. Turning a promising learning result into a broad protection claim would conceal the work still required and risk making the public promise less dependable.

My preferred board contribution would therefore combine commercial understanding with questions about evidence and responsibility. I would want to know how customer concerns travel through management, how a material issue reaches the board and whether the decision account shows what remains unresolved. I would not use a non-executive position to commission campaigns, direct agency staff or bypass the executives accountable for the business. Where detailed project work was needed, the company should appoint the appropriate advisers through a separate and properly assessed arrangement.

Before accepting an appointment, I would disclose relationships arising from my employment, agency work and financial interests, seek employer consent and examine the actual calendar. My proposed twenty-four annual days would need to cover preparation, induction and exceptional demands as well as scheduled meetings. I do not claim immediate readiness to chair a committee. I would work with the chair to understand where my experience complements the board and where further learning is essential, so that a customer perspective strengthens collective judgement rather than becomes a narrow claim of functional ownership.

On governance

I want the words that attract a customer to remain useful when that person asks a branch colleague what the offer means for them.

Contact

I would consider a defined advisory or speaking discussion about banking communication, and a compatible first board contribution after employer consent and relationship review. My proposed availability must fit the actual responsibility. I am interested in work where careful explanation is part of the commercial proposition, rather than an afterthought added to an already fixed message.
