The voice disappeared when two channels became one
A stereo approval failed to answer an agreed mono requirement. The useful response was to correct the acceptance question, not reinterpret the commission around the demonstration that had gone well.
I remember the confidence of the stereo demonstration more clearly than the equipment used to produce it. The voice was present, the presentation felt finished and I supported approval. Sanjay then asked for mono playback because that condition belonged to the commission. Combining the channels weakened the voice. The problem was not that our first experience had been imaginary. It was that I had allowed one valid observation to answer a larger question. A senior person's endorsement can make that leap harder for a delivery team to challenge, particularly when everyone would like the work to be ready.
Noise treatment is a choice about what to preserve as well as what to remove. A technical leader should make that trade-off audible and keep the source available when a proposed treatment does not earn acceptance.

Monitoring investment and capability acceptance5 min read
Six equipment installations did not create six approved monitoring environments. Capital oversight needs an account of usable capability, including the rooms still restricted after the purchasing milestone is complete.
The voice disappeared when two channels became one
I approved the demonstration while listening to a stereo reproduction. Sanjay Lemzani then asked for the same material to be summed to mono. The voice became markedly weaker because parts of the channel relationship cancelled. The file had not gone missing and the loudspeakers had not suddenly failed. We had approved one listening condition without examining another condition included in the commission. As CTO, I had helped make a convincing demonstration sound like a completed acceptance decision.
I am Nikhil Tezqavi, fictional technology chief of Drezqoli Audio Services in Nashik. We undertake audio postproduction for commissioned films and spoken-word programmes. Our 214 employees generated ₹88 crore FY 26 service revenue. I lead thirty-six engineering colleagues through four leads, with ₹7.2 crore FY 2026–27 operating expense and separate ₹3.1 crore approved capital. Creative acceptance belongs with the audio practice and authorised client representatives. My responsibility includes the technical conditions under which their judgement is made and carried into delivery.
My career began with studio maintenance in 1995. Equipment could operate correctly on its own while a connection, interpretation or listening environment changed the result of the whole chain. Later leadership roles made that observation a commercial responsibility. I have had to revisit a mono-compatibility decision, limit aggressive noise treatment, investigate source-rate interpretation and delay room acceptance after new equipment failed to settle the acoustic question. Each case required a more precise account of what the expenditure and engineering work had actually established.
A listening condition restored to the commission
Forty mixes underwent the agreed mono review: thirty-one initially passed and nine did not. Six were remixed successfully; three stayed held. The ₹38 lakh programme left thirty-seven accepted within that cohort, with no claim that every possible listening device had been examined.
Speech retained when quieter was not better
Review of twenty-four noisy dialogue passages accepted seventeen processed versions. Seven remained better served by the source material because the proposed treatment damaged speech detail. The ₹46 lakh programme kept those originals and their audible limitations, instead of calling a lower noise floor a complete restoration.
The monitoring room became part of the investment
A ₹96 lakh acoustic-assessment and treatment programme brought four of six rooms within the practice's declared monitoring criteria. Two remained outside final-mix approval. The result supported specific working conditions, without claiming that equipment purchase alone had made every room suitable.
Current focus
Connecting audio engineering investment with listening conditions, preservation of speech, correct source interpretation and the authority needed to accept a commissioned result.

As his CEO, I saw Nikhil reopen an approval he had already supported. He brought the mono-review cost and the three held mixes into our decision, rather than allowing the successful stereo presentation to stand for the whole commission.
