Ask what the growth proposal requires the company to become

A risk-engineering service must examine how each new revenue stream changes the judgement clients are paying it to provide.

01

Test what the adjacent revenue changes in the original service

A new service can share customers, locations and technical vocabulary with an existing business while changing the incentive behind its professional judgement. I examine how the company would earn money under both activities and what a client would need to understand about that relationship. The purpose is not to assume that every adjacency is unsuitable. It is to make the change explicit before projected revenue turns familiarity into a strategic conclusion. Qualified technical, commercial and professional owners retain their assessments. The recommendation should include alternatives that address the original need without reproducing every benefit of the proposed expansion. I also want the account to retain feasibility expense and opportunity forgone. Declining a business does not prove that another operator could not build it responsibly; it describes the commitment this company chose not to make.

02

Distinguish an office footprint from the ability to perform the work

A proposed office gives a geographic plan a visible point on a map. It does not by itself establish site access, specialist capacity or a workable travel sequence. I ask operating owners to classify actual requests against those requirements before the company commits to a footprint. The comparison should preserve the difference between a permanent branch and a travel-cluster arrangement, including what each can and cannot serve. Costs are useful only when the service scope is equally clear. A smaller setup figure is not automatically a like-for-like saving if the alternative provides different reach or continuity. I want unresolved access and unserved work retained in the strategic account, with technical suitability and safe operating arrangements determined by the responsible professionals rather than inferred from the expansion budget.

03

Connect the fee condition with the authority needed to satisfy it

A performance condition can appear to align a supplier with a client's desired outcome while depending on decisions the supplier does not control. I examine which part of the result comes from our service and which requires a site owner, insurer or another professional to act. That does not mean a supplier should be paid regardless of quality or timeliness. It means the contract should describe the work and evidence for which the supplier can responsibly answer. Commercial terms require the appropriate review, and technical recommendations must remain governed by their professional basis. The strategic account should show any fee opportunity forgone when the company chooses a different condition. I would not describe the resulting schedule as earned revenue before the actual service and recognition requirements have been met.

04

Treat a new data use as a new proposition to examine

Files produced through professional work can be valuable without being available for every later commercial purpose. I ask what use was originally contemplated, what the proposed product requires and which parties are authorised to address that change. Removing obvious identifiers is not a substitute for understanding the relevant permissions and professional obligations. Suitable specialists must assess the actual arrangement. The strategic decision needs a population whose inclusion can be explained, with excluded files kept out rather than made to disappear from the original opportunity count. A pilot can test usefulness within that boundary without establishing a complete commercial business or permission for future extensions. I want the resulting recommendation to distinguish available material, authorised scope, investment already made and revenue that remains only a possibility.

A leadership conviction

An adjacent service can change the incentive behind the original service. I want the strategic account to show that change before projected revenue makes it look like a natural extension.
