Decisions in context
I became CHRO in January 2021 and report to Rohit. Nineteen HR colleagues work through three leads within₹3.2 crore FY 2026–27 function expense. Nerzemi employs 480 people across four depots and records₹168 crore FY 26 service revenue. Sara leads specialist handling and learning, with qualified owners retaining technical standards and assignment clearance. My work concerns the people commitments behind those assignments:who is actually available, what evidence supports readiness and what the employment arrangement asks of the person. The succession review required me to correct a chart I had endorsed. The travel and hiring reviews required the company to explain familiar rules through the work rather than seniority or conversational convenience. I have no personal or trust holding and no statutory appointment. A prospective board role would require preparation for collective oversight, not simply a larger platform for the executive people decisions I currently make.
Reason for the move
Continuing CHRO responsibility while examining preparation for a first external board contribution

- Team
- 13 HR colleagues through three leads
- Financial scope
- ₹1.9 crore annual function expense
Mandate
Connect development, staffing records and employment policies across the growing depot network
Outcomes
- Developed a more structured record of proposed succession relationships
- Brought learning and assignment-planning colleagues into regular review
- Took responsibility for the consistency and consequences of employment policies
Decisions in context
The October 2014 appointment gave me responsibility for thirteen HR colleagues through three leads and₹1.9 crore annual function expense. Nerzemi had 290 employees, three depots and₹91 crore revenue for FY ending March 2015. I reported to the COO. I wanted the company to rely less on informal knowledge of who could cover a role or help with an unusual assignment. We developed more structured learning and succession records. That was useful work, but I later saw how a consistent format could conceal a repeated dependency if each row was reviewed alone. The CHRO appointment made me accountable for the way that account reached the executive team and directors. I carried forward the aim of clearer records while becoming more willing to question what their completion actually meant. A form should help the business examine its people decisions rather than make an unresolved condition disappear behind a completed field.
Reason for the move
Appointed Chief Human Resources Officer
- Sector
- People partnership in exhibition packing and movement coordination
- Ownership
- Private specialist logistics-services company
- Company scale
- ₹39 crore service revenue for FY ending March 2008

- 140 direct employees

- ₹82 lakh annual function expense
Mandate
Support employment and development arrangements for specialist teams working across exhibition assignments
Outcomes
- Connected assignment discussions with their travel and employment implications
- Worked with technical owners on the evidence behind learning records
- Developed local people-service responsibility before the wider function appointment
Decisions in context
I joined Nerzemi in August 2007 and moved to Gwalior. The enterprise employed 140 people at two depots and reported₹39 crore revenue for FY ending March 2008. Eight HR colleagues worked through two leads within₹82 lakh annual function expense, with me reporting to the head of HR. Exhibition movements brought together responsibilities that a central employment form could describe too simply. A colleague might be technically experienced yet unavailable for a particular journey, or willing to travel but concerned about the proposed accommodation. I worked with operating owners to make those conditions discussable without claiming authority over packing or conservation decisions. The later head-of-people role widened the policy and system responsibility. I wanted that move because the same practical questions kept returning through local enquiries and deserved attention before another assignment was arranged on assumptions employees had not been given a useful way to examine.
Reason for the move
Promoted to Head of People
- Sector
- Employee induction and support for collections-service work
- Ownership
- Privately owned regional services business
- Company scale
- ₹18 crore revenue for FY ending March 2002

- People Manager
- Team
- Six colleagues through two supervisors
- Financial scope
- ₹38 lakh annual function expense
Mandate
Organise joining, learning records and employee discussions about the next assignment
Outcomes
- Coordinated induction records without treating attendance as technical clearance
- Developed supervisory responsibility for the support team
- Connected employee questions with managers able to decide the actual arrangement
Decisions in context
From April 2001 I coordinated employee induction with six colleagues through two supervisors and₹38 lakh annual function expense. Zevqoli had 102 employees and₹18 crore revenue for FY ending March 2002. I reported to the people manager. The role connected joining administration with learning and deployment conversations. I could organise a session and confirm participation, but the operating owner still needed to decide what the person was ready to undertake. I also learned that a request described as a routine assignment could contain unresolved questions about travel or working arrangements. Passing the request to another department was not the same as ensuring that the employee received an answer. Nerzemi offered a broader people-partner role close to specialist exhibition movements. I took it to understand those decisions earlier in their formation and to build a stronger connection between the employment record and the work the record was expected to support.
Reason for the move
Moved into a people-partner role in specialist exhibition logistics
- Sector
- Administrative support for collections-service coordination
- Ownership
- Private regional services enterprise
- Company scale
- ₹6.8 crore revenue for FY ending March 1996
- Employees
- 46 company employees
- Geography
- Indian collections-service work
- Reporting to
- Administration Manager
- Team
- Five-person support group including me;no direct reports
- Financial scope
- No delegated hiring, spending or technical approval authority
Mandate
Prepare assigned records and route service questions to the responsible professional
Outcomes
- Learned the limits of administrative completion in specialist work
- Maintained assigned coordination records under supervision
- Developed the support foundation for employee-induction responsibility
Decisions in context
I joined Zevqoli in July 1995 after completing my arts degree in June. The company employed forty-six people and recorded₹6.8 crore revenue for FY ending March 1996. I belonged to a five-person support group under the administration manager, without direct reports or spending authority. My work involved records and coordination around collections-service assignments. I did not assess an object's condition or decide the appropriate handling method. The useful discipline was to identify the question that remained and the qualified colleague who could answer it. A complete record could still contain a decision nobody had made. That observation stayed with me when I moved into employee induction and later people leadership. I wanted to become better at connecting the administrative account with the actual commitment, while respecting that the ability to organise these records did not give me every professional authority represented within it.
Reason for the move
Promoted into employee induction coordination
What I am looking for next
I would consider a first external board contribution in specialist services where capability, availability and employment conditions materially affect delivery. My experience could help directors examine the meaning of a succession or learning claim and the assumptions behind a working arrangement. I would need to learn the enterprise's economics, obligations and technical dependencies rather than presume that exhibition-logistics examples provide a ready policy for another business. I have not registered with the IICA databank;assessment preparation remains unfinished and no exemption is claimed. Twenty-four provisional days must accommodate induction, papers, travel, meetings and unexpected demands, with employer consent and relationship review completed before commitment. I hold no statutory seat. I would value colleagues with complementary financial, legal and operating experience and a chair who expects challenge to improve collective judgement. A recurring conflict or a timetable I cannot prepare for would outweigh an attractive sector connection. The next chapter requires a credible contribution and sufficient preparation, not simply a change in title.
