My contribution to a board
My contribution would begin with the work a product proposition leaves outside its first explanation. A compact bench may require more surrounding space; an entry item may need another component for the pictured task; a returnable package may need a collection business after delivery. I have had to bring those consequences back into recommendations I supported. In a boardroom I would ask management to describe the complete undertaking and the evidence behind its most attractive claim. The purpose would be to improve the collective decision, not to make every director a product researcher. I would listen to finance about the cost, operations about the capability and legal colleagues about the terms before concluding that a narrower promise is better. Sometimes the company should accept uncertainty to pursue an opportunity. It should do so understanding which part of the offer is established and which part still depends on work to be completed. I would also acknowledge where my own initial proposition required correction, rather than present challenge as something I only apply to others.
Judgement in practice
01Correcting a claim I had allowed a drawing to carry
I supported a compactness proposition based on a 0.9 square-metre footprint before the twenty-four-team study showed materially different working arrangements. Fourteen teams needed a wider option and ten a narrower one. I would bring the willingness to revisit that kind of claim into oversight. A board should ask which customer task the evidence actually covers, what remains for specialist assessment and what commercial complexity the revised offer creates. Our ₹36 lakh study and development produced two propositions; the later eighty-four sales, split 52 wider and 32 narrower, describe purchases rather than a universal productivity result. As a director I would keep those different statements separate while recognising the genuine outcome of a product reaching customers. I would not use the study's median working envelope as a standard clearance or substitute my product experience for the company's technical and workplace responsibilities.
02Keeping the return journey inside the recommendation
The crate pilot returned sixty-one usable units and eighteen needing repair, with sixteen still outstanding from ninety-five dispatches. Fifty-three usable returns later travelled again and eight remained in reserve. Those counts support a concrete account of repeated use within two hub routes; they do not alone establish a national operating model or an environmental benefit. I would ask management what wider promise it wants to make, which continuing responsibilities it can fulfil and how it will account for the ₹47 lakh pilot expense. A board could choose a faster expansion under uncertainty, but the unresolved collection work should remain visible in that decision. My contribution would be to connect the attractive physical product with the organisation required to keep the promise. The logistics, quality and financial owners would retain their specialist account and execution responsibilities.
My first year on a board
I would ask the chair to help me understand two product decisions the board recently approved and one it declined. Reading the original recommendation beside the later customer and operating account would reveal how the company learns from its choices. During induction I would visit the work behind one proposition with the responsible manager, listening to the people who sell, deliver and use it without giving them instructions. I would also spend deliberate time on financial statements, risk oversight and collective duties, because those responsibilities extend beyond my executive product experience. In committee I would aim to clarify a small number of consequential assumptions rather than request a redesign of every offer. At the end of the first year I would ask whether my questions helped colleagues see a customer or operating obligation they otherwise might have missed. The chair's feedback would matter more than how often I had spoken.
Conflicts and their management
Zerqeli supplies industrial workplaces and works with manufacturing customers, distributors, logistics businesses, material vendors and the interests of its regional investor. A proposed board could share those relationships even if it makes a different product. I would review connections before receiving confidential plans, including employment obligations and any personal holding. A manageable declaration is different from a repeated exclusion that prevents meaningful contribution. I would not carry customer layouts, unpublished configuration economics or another company's proposed range into either organisation's discussions. The same discipline applies when explaining a general method: a useful example need not reveal a protected account. Time would be examined alongside commercial overlap. My twenty-two-day allowance is provisional and must include preparation, committee meetings, travel and unusual events. Employer consent and the actual calendar would be necessary. If the role depended on availability or freedom from competing interests that I could not provide, I would decline rather than rely on the attraction of the appointment.
My independence statement
Before any proposed seat I would disclose my employment, holdings and business relationships for review under the applicable Companies Act independence conditions, SEBI LODR requirements where relevant, committee responsibilities and directorship limits. The company's advisers and proper appointment process must consider the actual circumstances. My current career contains no statutory directorship, and a databank entry does not settle independence from a particular organisation.

I present selected range choices and their customer consequences to directors through CEO Vikram Nerzhani. I explain the strongest competing option and the work retained by the recommendation; I hold no voting or statutory board position.

The seat I am pursuing
I am interested in one first non-executive appointment at an industrial business whose board wants a clearer view of its customer promise. A strategy or customer committee, where the company has one, could fit after induction. I am not offering to chair an audit committee or certify products from a board seat. Complementary directors should bring the financial, legal and operating experience needed for collective oversight. I would want the chair to explain why a product perspective is missing and how a new director can contribute without managing the portfolio personally. My fictional databank registration dates from August 2026, while assessment preparation and other applicable obligations remain unfinished. Company-specific review must follow. A useful role would allow me to question a persuasive proposition, hear the strongest case for it and support a measured decision that preserves the work still required to make the promise true.

IICA Independent Directors’ Databank: Registered
For this fictional career, I entered the IICA independent directors databank in August 2026. Assessment preparation is unfinished; neither an assessment pass nor an exemption is asserted. Applicable continuing obligations and company-specific suitability would be reviewed before pursuing a seat.
- Product reviews presented to directors since January 2023; executive exposure without a statutory appointment.
- August 2026 fictional databank registration followed by planned assessment preparation.
- Further study will address financial oversight, directors' collective responsibilities and how committees examine customer commitments.
