A mandate involving segment definition, marketing investment or channel dependence is more informative than a request for growth in general. I would also need to understand the authority attached to the role and its relationship with sales, credit or product leadership. For a board conversation, please explain the contribution sought, the expected calendar and the company's relevant commercial connections. An initial discussion would establish fit and preparation needs rather than imply acceptance.
