Tell me which decision the board must judge

If you are a chair, a nominating committee member or a search adviser, the most useful first message tells me who the company's customers are, what the board wants a new director to help it judge, and which committee the seat would join. I can usually tell from those three facts whether a conversation would be worth your time. I would ask early about your relationships with brokers, banks, logging-device makers and invoice-advance providers, because those determine whether I can serve at all.
