The death of the CV

The most important document in your career was designed in 1482.

The first résumé is generally credited to Leonardo da Vinci, who wrote to the Duke of Milan listing what he could build. Five centuries later, a chief executive being considered for a $2 billion group is still evaluated on the same instrument: a document they wrote about themselves, which no one has checked, and which cannot be compared with anyone else's.

It is not that the CV is old. It is that the CV answers the wrong question. It tells a board what you have done. A board is trying to decide what you can be trusted to lead.

Exhibit A

Every claim below is true. Not one of them is checkable.

This is a strong CV — better than most that reach a search committee. Select any marked claim.

The six questions

What a board asks, and where the CV falls silent.

01

How good is this person, compared with their peers?

The CV

Silent. A CV has no scale, so there is nothing to compare.

The Passport

Assessment bands by dimension, with a percentile against the role cohort.

02

At what scale can they actually be trusted?

The CV

A verb. “Led a large international business.”

The Passport

Largest P&L owned in USD, headcount, countries, ownership contexts, regulatory intensity.

03

Have they done this specific situation before?

The CV

A noun. “Turnaround specialist.”

The Passport

Situations led, each with ownership, scale, year and a quantified outcome.

04

Which of these claims has anyone checked?

The CV

None, at the point it matters.

The Passport

Every claim carries a verification level, a date and a verifier.

05

Can we lawfully appoint them in this market?

The CV

“Open to international opportunities.”

The Passport

Work authorisation per market, and a corridor state with the condition named.

06

Can they see this without their employer finding out?

The CV

The document has already been forwarded three times.

The Passport

Blind by default. Identity moves only on consent, scoped, expiring and audited.

The replacement

The same leader, expressed as evidence.

This is a real projection from the live disclosure service — the blind layer, exactly as a verified board receives it. The redactions are not styling. Those fields were never sent to this page.

A CV is a claim. A Passport is a credential.

One is written by the candidate and believed by default. The other is assembled from verified evidence, scored against peers, controlled by its holder, and released only to a named board for a named mandate — with an audit trail of who saw what, and when.

The Executive Passport is issued by Gladwin International & Company. It is not a job board, and it is not a public profile.
