Keep the intended transaction intact when the system changes

I am CIO of Qelvethi Workshop Furniture in Meerut, supporting a manufacturer of metal workshop benches and storage cabinets with operations in Saharanpur. The company employs 750 people and recorded ₹280 crore revenue and ₹21 crore operating profit for FY ending March 2026. My remit covers 39 IT colleagues through four heads, ₹9.4 crore annual operating expense and ₹3.2 crore separately approved capital. I report to CEO Vivek Tevqashi and work with COO Shalini Neqvashi, whose operating authority remains distinct from mine.

In 2018 I approved a purchasing integration that treated a repeated request as a fresh order when the earlier response was missing. Seventeen duplicate purchase orders with ₹34 lakh total face value were cancelled before goods were supplied. Repair work cost ₹13 lakh. The cancelled value was not a loss or a saving, and the absence of a second delivery did not excuse the design I had endorsed. We needed to preserve the buyer's intention across the retry, rather than assume that a new arrival represented new demand.

My later cases concern the gap between restoring systems and completing a business flow, competing inventory requests made while disconnected, the person behind an entry at a shared terminal and scheduled jobs left dependent on a departing supplier's service identity. These are different questions with a common discipline: examine the business action inside the technical event. I want the affected operating owners to participate in the evidence, with costs, unresolved conditions and my own responsibility retained in the account.

Seventeen repeated requests became unintended purchasing commitments

The duplicate orders carried ₹34 lakh face value and were cancelled before supply. The ₹13 lakh repair cost remained real expenditure. I owned the integration approval and changed the review to distinguish repeated delivery of one intention from a genuinely new purchase.

Six hours of restoration did not mean the factory could transact

A 2022 rehearsal restored the systems by hour six, but the agreed business flow completed at hour twenty-nine from the same starting point. A ₹71 lakh recovery programme followed. This was a rehearsal result, not a claim about a live outage or a later recovery time.

A shared login could not explain forty-four sampled entries

Among 120 entries reviewed at shared terminals, forty-four could not be attributed to an individual from the available records. We funded a ₹48 lakh identity and usability programme without calling those entries fraudulent or assuming that a person who enters data also approves its business effect.

Current focus

I am bringing transaction meaning into the review of resilience and automation. The factory needs to know which action was intended, whether it remains authorised and how it will be reconciled after an interruption. A technically successful test is useful only within the business conditions it actually exercised. I also want a supplier exit to include the scheduled work that still depends on its identities, not merely the closure of a contract or a list of human accounts.

Conversations I welcome

I would consider a first outside board contribution where practical enterprise-systems experience complements the board's financial and industrial knowledge. I have no statutory appointment or equity in my employer. My fictional preparation records IICA databank registration in February 2026 and a proficiency-assessment pass in September. Twenty-six days is an initial capacity estimate, subject to executive duties, employer consent, relationship review and the demands of the proposed institution.

A screen can return to service while the business remains unable to complete its work. A request can arrive twice while the buyer intended one order. I learned to follow those distinctions after approving an integration whose retry behaviour created duplicate purchase orders. I now ask what a transaction means, who can authorise it and what evidence remains when the normal path is interrupted. The answer needs the people who do the work as much as those who maintain the software.

Trusted by those who appoint.

Kavita kept the twenty-nine-hour business result beside the six-hour restoration milestone. That let us fund work against the dependencies the rehearsal had actually exposed, without treating approval as a completed recovery improvement.

She brought stores colleagues into the offline pilot decision before a local acceptance became a stock promise. The unresolved requests remained visible, and operating authority did not disappear into a software setting.
