The boardroom
Give directors an account the evidence can support
I would ask directors to examine the authority a technology account gives to its evidence. A passing test can establish that code follows a specification without establishing that the specification describes the business's intended rule. A timestamp can describe observation without determining the authorised order of changes. A quieter paging channel can reflect a different response design without proving that fewer failures occurred. These distinctions help a board assess management's conclusion without requiring directors to become the implementation team.
My current role is executive engineering leadership. I report to the CIO and lead 64 employees through five heads, with fourteen contracted specialists counted separately. The company's ₹1,260 crore loan portfolio is business context, not my credit authority. The engineering expense and capital envelope is also distinct from the lender's balance sheet. I would retain those boundaries in a board account because a large financial number near a technology title can invite an unsupported impression of personal remit. Qualified business and professional owners remain responsible for lending terms, credit, accounting and compliance.
The schedule rehearsal shows why those boundaries matter. A general-purpose date adjustment differed from the approved convention in 144 of 9,600 synthetic examples. We held the affected release, spent ₹32 lakh and accepted 132 corrected cases while twelve still required clarification. The account should not describe that as a set of live borrower accounts repaired or imply that engineering could choose the remaining rule. Directors should see the basis of the decision, the owner of the unresolved question and the cost of retaining an authorised process while the new path remains incomplete.
The certificate programme required a different kind of restraint. Nine integrations were not ready at rehearsal, and a suggested validation bypass would have made connections appear successful by removing a required condition. I supported security's refusal and funded a controlled transition. The defined work completed before expiry and the end of the permitted overlap. That is useful evidence without being universal security assurance. A board should be able to distinguish a tested transition from a general claim that no weakness remains anywhere in the environment.
I also want the human work behind an engineering choice visible. Narrowing routine diagnostic fields made the authorised investigation route slower in the bounded rehearsal. Revising paging rules required six weeks of work and deferred other features. Those consequences should not be hidden because the purpose of the change is defensible. A board can ask whether management has funded the response, retained the underlying evidence and explained what remains uncertain. It can also challenge my own assumptions, including the broad paging preference I had supported before examining the burden it created.
Before an outside appointment, I would review relationships through the lender's owners, business customers, technology suppliers and financing counterparties, together with relevant personal links. No share allocation or current seat does not settle independence. The proposed role needs professional assessment against the specific circumstances and the requirements governing appointments to that company. I would not transfer borrower records, security findings or commercial material from my executive role as informal proof of experience. Employer consent and a realistic assessment of capacity belong in the same decision as the contribution the board needs.
I have presented through the CIO but have no statutory directorship. Fictional databank registration began in March 2026 and the proficiency assessment was passed in September 2026, with no exemption claimed. Twenty-two days is provisional and must include induction, papers, travel and exceptional demands. I would seek a first role with complementary financial, legal and operating experience around the table. The aim is to improve collective judgement about the business, including recognising when a technical explanation I find familiar needs to be reconsidered.
On governance
An engineering default is a choice, even when nobody remembers choosing it. A calendar adjustment can move a date, a wall clock can make an older event look newer, and a diagnostic setting can copy more financial detail than the investigation requires. I want those assumptions examined before the system's convenient behaviour becomes the explanation another team is expected to defend. My responsibility is to make the implementation support the authorised business decision, including the work and cost that a more careful design requires.

I am interested in a first outside board contribution where software behaviour and business obligations must be understood together. I have no statutory seat. Fictional IICA registration began in March 2026 and the proficiency assessment was passed in September 2026, with no exemption claimed. Twenty-two days is provisional, subject to consent, relationships and the actual appointment demands.
