Quality authority under commercial pressure
I examine whether the organisation gives quality colleagues the practical conditions to exercise their responsibilities. A formal reporting line matters, but so do staffing, access to specialists and the way an executive meeting responds to an unresolved investigation. I look for evidence that the commercial forecast has absorbed a constraint rather than repeatedly asking the final decision-maker to remove it. My role is to fund capability, resolve competing priorities and accept the business consequences of decisions made through the authorised process. I do not substitute my engineering background or executive position for specialist release authority. The distinction becomes particularly important near a reporting deadline, when several individually reasonable requests can collectively make an inappropriate expectation feel routine. A credible system allows the evidence to remain inconvenient without making the person who reports it responsible for the entire commercial shortfall.
