Make the basis of the product commitment open to challenge

A board should understand the relationship between a product commitment and the evidence offered to support it. That does not require directors to become designers or test engineers. It requires management to explain which conditions the evidence represents, what conclusion it supports and what remains unresolved. I would bring experience of those boundaries while learning the enterprise's commercial, financial and people responsibilities beyond product development.

My own acoustic decision is a useful starting point. In 2017 I endorsed a loaded-use claim after an unloaded demonstration. Nine of thirty assemblies later missed the project's agreed criterion under loaded review. We held 120 preproduction units before customer release, delayed introduction ten weeks and incurred ₹48 lakh in correction work. The absence of a field recall or injury did not make the approval sound. Directors should see the inference I accepted and the consequence of correcting it, without being asked to choose the actual technical method.

The route case shows why a correct measurement can still support an incomplete proposition. Seven of eighteen reviewed routes exposed a turning problem despite adequate folded doorway width. A ₹94 lakh programme followed. The board can ask whether the commercial account concerns an opening, a configuration or the whole intended movement. It should retain the reviewed population and the work still needed, rather than infer universal customer suitability from a catalogue dimension or a programme budget.

Component qualification needs the same clarity. A replacement wheel shared an outer diameter while its mounting offset changed clearance. Eleven of 48 configurations failed the agreed check, leading to a ₹1.3 crore qualification programme. A director need not specify the replacement or approve a clearance. The relevant question is whether management has established which assemblies the substitution actually covers and how unresolved configurations are treated before a general claim is made.

The coating case concerns a different inference. Accelerated observations at 240 and 360 hours did not establish two and three years of field life. I withheld the three-year statement and supported ₹57 lakh for observation. The board should understand what evidence would establish a calendar promise and avoid treating funded research as its completed result. The controlled work can remain useful within its purpose while the wider conclusion remains unsupported. A narrow accurate statement is preferable to a broad one whose apparent precision conceals an unexamined relationship.

Communication also belongs in the product account. Fifteen of thirty-six reviewed participants misread one folding sequence, prompting ₹42 lakh for illustration, translation and retesting. The finding did not rank languages or establish an injury outcome. It showed that author understanding was not sufficient evidence of reader understanding. Directors can ask how management knows an important instruction communicates its intended meaning, while leaving the actual technical and safety acceptance with qualified owners.

I have presented development matters through the CEO but have not held a statutory appointment. My fictional IICA registration began in April 2026, with assessment unfinished and no exemption claimed. A prospective role requires qualified review of applicable independence and committee or directorship requirements. I would not infer chair readiness from my executive title. Induction should broaden my view of the institution and help me contribute to collective decisions beyond the engineering questions I already recognise.

My employee-trust interest would need disclosure alongside employment and relevant founder, investor, customer and supplier relationships. Twenty-three provisional days must cover preparation, induction, travel and exceptional demands. Confidential drawings and qualification records would remain protected. If exclusions or workload prevented dependable participation across the receiving board's work, I would reconsider the opportunity. The proposed contribution needs the same honest account of conditions that I expect in a product claim: clear enough for the institution to judge what it can actually rely on.

On governance

A product claim should travel with the conditions that make its evidence relevant. I once supported a loaded-use acoustic claim on the strength of an unloaded demonstration. The later review forced us to hold units and repeat work that should have been planned earlier. I now want the engineering discussion to include the route a trolley must negotiate, the configuration actually supplied and the person who must understand its instructions. A neat test result is useful only when we can explain what it represents.

I would explore a first outside board role where industrial product judgement could complement financial, commercial and people expertise. I have no statutory appointment or individual shares, but my employee-trust interest would need disclosure. My fictional IICA registration dates to April 2026, with the proficiency assessment unfinished. Twenty-three days is a provisional capacity estimate, subject to employer consent, relationship review and the actual demands of the role.
