The record must outlive its original explanation

The first lesson I carried from programming into leadership was that a current value can be an incomplete explanation.

I lead technology for retirement-benefit administration by asking whether the record still explains the decision when the person, employer or rule has changed.

I am CIO of Qezvuni Corporate Pension Services in Mysuru. We support 186 employer-trust clients with administration and records services. The 620,000 member records in our systems describe the scale of that work, not assets we manage. Clients retain their investment, fiduciary and benefit-authorisation responsibilities. I lead 47 technology colleagues through four heads and report to the CEO.

My first work involved service-data programming in Bhilai. I learned to follow the reason behind a field rather than assume its current value was the whole record. Moving into retirement administration made that question more consequential. An employment relationship can end while the records supporting a later decision remain necessary. A changed rule may need a defined effective date, and a person who has retired still needs a usable way to understand the account.

The cases here concern historical rule evidence, separation between client organisations, accessible statements, the handling of ambiguous scanned nominations and the commercial definition of a software user. They show costs accepted and automation limited. I once assumed that an exportable statement was sufficiently accessible because a file could be downloaded. Testing with people who used assistive tools changed that view. I want the technology account to state what a system establishes, what it leaves for authorised judgement and whose continuing needs a convenient definition may exclude.

The earlier rule stayed attached to the calculation

A review of 1,260 historical calculation records found 84 without a sufficiently linked rule-version reference. We retained those for authorised review and rebuilt the evidence trail; the count did not establish 84 incorrect benefits or authorise a new payment.

A downloadable file still needed a usable reading order

Twenty-eight participants rehearsed statement tasks with assistive tools. Eleven could not complete the defined sequence on the first version. After revision, three still needed assistance. I retained those limits rather than call the whole journey independently accessible.

Retirement did not make the service record inactive

A software renewal distinguished 410,000 current employment records from 210,000 former-employee or retired-member records. We paid for a defined service capability across both groups rather than allow a cheaper active-user definition to narrow the continuing administration obligation.

Current focus

I am connecting the long life of a member record with the authority, access and service arrangements needed to use it responsibly. That includes preserving historical rule context, maintaining client separation and making statements usable without relying on a person's former employer login. Business and professional owners remain responsible for the decisions supported by the systems.

Conversations I welcome

I am considering a first outside board contribution where long-lived records and continuing customer obligations matter. I have no statutory appointment and have not yet registered in the IICA databank. Preparation remains unfinished. Twenty-five days is a provisional capacity allowance, subject to employer consent, relationships and the demands of a specific role.

I want the system to preserve the explanation a person may need years after the original transaction. Retirement administration brings together employment history, scheme rules, authorised decisions and records that continue to matter after active service ends. A current screen can look orderly while losing the version or relationship needed to explain an older calculation. My job is to make that continuity workable without pretending that software owns the client's judgement.

Keeping eighty-four historical calculations open for an authorised explanation

A 2022 review examined 1,260 historical benefit-calculation records for a defined group of client schemes.

Removing a convenient cross-client export before releasing the support workspace

A 2023 support-workspace rehearsal used synthetic member records across twelve fictional client environments.

III

Funding assistance after the statement became easier but not universally usable

In 2024 I approved a statement programme that initially treated download availability as the principal improvement.

Kavita kept the historical evidence gap separate from a conclusion about the member's benefit. She funded the work needed for an authorised explanation and retained the unresolved cases in the board account.

I work with Kavita on benefit operations. She understands why a readable field or a current rule does not settle every instruction, and she makes space for the client decision instead of asking software to borrow that authority.
