The person approving an equipment purchase may never carry its trays or explain its output to a buyer. I want those different responsibilities present in the product decision.

Examine the commitment the customer believes they are making

My contribution to a board

I could help a board examine the work and relationships hidden inside a concise product promise. The purchaser may approve expenditure while operators encounter a routine that was insufficiently researched. A broad application label may imply reviews that remain unfinished. An introduction to a potential buyer may sound like a commitment that the counterparty has never made. These distinctions affect what the enterprise chooses to offer and what the customer is entitled to infer.

My contribution would be to ask management how those relationships have been examined and which responsible owners have assessed them. It would not be to approve equipment designs, prescribe processing methods or negotiate every customer agreement from the boardroom. I would want directors to understand the supported scope, the genuine trade-off and the work still open. The tray case keeps my own limitation visible: I had experience in user research and still approved a decision with inadequate operator evidence. Outside oversight should preserve that openness to challenge rather than turn a long product career into presumed authority over every part of the proposition.

Judgement in practice

01

Examining the scope behind an application label

Five of twelve proposed combinations had completed the defined review. The remaining seven were development questions, even though a broader label made the commercial story more attractive. I would ask management how the release account distinguished those stages and how prospects learned about its limits. A board should understand the opportunity given up by narrowing the offer without treating research expenditure as completed approval. Qualified engineering and customer quality owners retain the actual assessment. Product oversight helps directors see what the organisation is promising while that promise can still be changed.

02

Asking what a trial was allowed to conclude

The programme retained eleven completions, five withdrawals and different purchase decisions among the completers. I would ask how management used each path to examine fit and whether reporting had selected only the commercially attractive endings. The ₹87 lakh expense also belongs in the discussion. An honest trial route is not automatically a good investment, and six later purchases do not alone establish its causal return. The board should be able to examine the learning, cost and unresolved evidence together while leaving the actual customer and product decisions with the accountable executives.

My first year on a board

My induction would begin with a small number of consequential product decisions and the people affected by them. Through arrangements agreed with the chair, I would learn how a proposition moves from research and development into a purchasing discussion and then into actual use. I would want to understand the authority of engineering, customer quality, commercial and legal owners, including where an external party's decision becomes essential to the offer. The purpose would be to learn the enterprise before proposing a preferred research approach.

I would also examine how management reports an application that remains unresolved or a product route that has not developed as expected. A board needs enough context to distinguish useful progress from a claim that has quietly expanded. Suitable site or customer conversations should respect established channels and permissions. I would seek feedback on whether my questions clarify the strategic choice without taking over the product team's work. The first year should establish a grounded contribution and a clear understanding of where my own experience requires support from other directors and qualified advisers.

Conflicts and their management

The current role involves processors, component suppliers, design specialists, commercial channels and potential produce-buyer relationships. Some may overlap with a prospective appointment. Founder and investor connections, my personal holding and relevant family or professional relationships need disclosure. I would follow the applicable process for access, participation and any recusal; an overlap may make a role unsuitable rather than merely require a note in the biography. Private application records, customer production details and commercial discussions would not become material available to another enterprise through my participation.

The provisional twenty-four-day allowance needs to cover preparation, travel and unexpected demands as well as meetings. Product issues can require substantial executive attention during a release or correction. I would discuss employer expectations and the prospective board's actual workload before accepting, including how capacity would be reassessed if either role changed. Relevant experience is only one part of a credible commitment. Where time, relationships or preparation do not support the contribution expected, I would prefer to defer or decline rather than rely on an attractive account of product knowledge to conceal a practical limitation.

My independence statement

My current employment, personal equity and relevant relationships would need examination before any proposed appointment. The 0.08% holding is included within the employer's 20% employee allocation; it is not an additional ownership block or evidence of independence from another company. Founder, investor, processor, supplier, adviser and personal connections may also matter. Applicable Companies Act criteria, including section 149(6), and relevant SEBI LODR provisions, committee requirements and directorship limits need assessment for the specific role. I would disclose the facts through the appropriate process and update them when circumstances changed. An empty list of statutory seats does not settle that review.

Governance learning and readiness

IICA Independent Directors’ Databank: Registered

The fictional record states IICA databank registration in August 2026. Proficiency-assessment preparation remains incomplete, and I claim neither a pass nor an exemption. The functional product-director title in the chronology was an employment designation and should not be read as statutory service. An actual search would require current evidence of preparation and the requirements relevant to the appointment. Registration is one fact in that account, rather than a substitute for the remaining assessment, suitability and company-specific work that a serious outside role would require.

  • I am developing the distinction between owning an executive product recommendation and examining management's recommendation through the board process. The latter starts with understanding the enterprise and leaves management responsible for design and delivery.
  • My preparation includes financial, legal and governance responsibilities beyond a product-function budget. A broader service promise can create obligations that need appropriate professional advice, even when the equipment itself is familiar to me.
  • I want to understand how directors hear about an important user group or external commitment that the original proposition overlooked. My own tray-handling decision gives me a reason to ask whether a convincing demonstration has narrowed the evidence available for challenge.

Board and committee exposure

Lemqavri Thermal Products

Product-scope and customer-proposition discussions through the CEO

August 2022–present

I explain development priorities and the evidence behind the customer offer, including application limits, trial outcomes and the status of buyer relationships. This fictional executive exposure does not establish a statutory appointment or a committee vote. A real public account would need permission to describe the forum and personal contribution, rather than allowing the CPO title to imply board service.

Executive review of operator evidence and the tray-handling correction

2017, as head of applications

I explained why the purchaser-led demonstration I relied on had not adequately represented the operator routine. The review retained my responsibility and the correction expense, including customer credits. It illustrates an invented account of executive judgement, not independent technical assurance, a food-quality certification or statutory directorship.

The seat I am pursuing

I am considering a first nonexecutive contribution where understanding customer propositions would add to the board's existing capabilities. I am not seeking immediate committee chairmanship or describing a CPO appointment as an independent-director credential. The enterprise should be able to identify the product or service question it wants the board to examine and provide the induction needed to understand its own users and responsibilities. A general request for innovation experience does not yet describe that contribution clearly enough.

I would be cautious about an invitation intended to validate a preferred launch or an unsupported market-access story. A useful role needs room to question the evidence and the limits of the promise, including conclusions management or I initially found persuasive. If the actual requirement is a hands-on development assignment, it should be considered as such rather than disguised as board service. Appropriate preparation and appointment review must come first. My interest opens a discussion about fit; it does not imply that every company, committee or relationship has already been assessed and found suitable.
