Board chairs and nominating committees considering a non-executive appointment outside discount and grocery retail are welcome to write, as are organisers of a serious discussion on rural retail, store safety or pharmacy access, and peers at other chains who want to compare notes on a particular problem. A first note is most useful when it names the organisation, explains why my experience is relevant and indicates the time involved; it should also mention any connection to Marrick, Stonebeck or our suppliers. I do not consider executive roles while I am leading Marrick through its ownership change, and I do not comment on Stonebeck's plans or on any sale process. Suppliers should approach our merchandising team rather than me. Customers with a store concern and Marrick employees with a workplace issue will be helped fastest through our customer service line or our employee hotline, where someone can act on the matter.
