Lead for the years after the sale
A large channel can be valuable and still require a different conversation about concentration, timing and the cost of alternatives.
A distribution partnership can deserve praise without deserving every additional commitment the business is asked to make. That sounds obvious until a board paper places a strong volume number at the centre of the discussion. The number becomes evidence of execution, evidence of customer access and, by a further step that often goes unexamined, evidence that the next investment should follow the same route. I have made that step myself. The error was not trusting colleagues who had delivered. It was allowing a successful result to answer a question about dependence that the result had not been designed to answer.
